I suppose that with "flea watt speaker amps" @Rensek means something like the Omega's, like these: https://omegaloudspeakers.com/products/compact-alnico-monitor?variant=32172350732?

They are Okay with just 2 watts of power output.

In that case, would a Magni 3+ be OK for them?
Nope, neither is a speaker amp, sorry. Magni 3+ is topologically the same as Vidar now, though.

Output impedance of the preamp outs is 75 ohms, as is typical for our products.

Obviously some custom cabling would be required, to use speakers.

How about a third Magni, a Magni SP,

Change the preamp outputs to speaker jacks that accept banana only......

Magni doesn't have enough heatsinking to run speakers, sorry.

I get what you're saying now. Hopefully Jason can chime in here on how "bad" the single ended outputs on the Freya+ are. FWIW, I'm thrilled with the Freya+, am able to use the balanced outputs, and shortly will be lucky enough to use them to feed monoblocks (albeit not Aegir).

ed

There's no summing going on in Freya+. The single-ended outputs are half of the differential outputs, with no summing going on. Simple as that.

No worries, worth asking at least.

How about an integrated mini Aegir. Or a super Asgard

2 watts class A, 4-8 watts in continuity mode

Same pot as you use in Asgard 3, no gain switches.

Maybe the company that sells you heatsinks for Vidar, Aegir, Ragnarok has a half sized offering, or chassis heatsinks like you have done for years.

One would think that would separate and differentiate you from the other, ahem, fan driven options out there.

@Jason Stoddard please clarify, is Freya+ solid stage gain section NEXUS or something else? are both the solid state and tube hybrid sections both balanced and differential (e.g. SE -> bal diff out) I think there is some confusion among users, e.g. source feeding the amp is SE, and users would like flexibility to use either one (SE stereo mode) or two (bal in, monoblock mode) Aegir or Vidar amps.

I think this is all covered in the chapter, but Freya+ is a differential solid state gain stage that is NOT Nexus--it is an open-loop gain stage. Also the tube gain stage is differential as well and NOT Nexus. Both are balanced and differential.

I think I covered this before, but that product is way too expensive and wayyyyy too niche. It's really a $300 product. That's a ton of money for a flea power amp.

That black and with a hint of red at the bottom sure looks nice. Maybe that would be a better color for the Jotunheim R to better differentiate it from the regular Jotumheim

How about using a speaker amp for speakers? Perhaps if your desktop speakers are >16 ohms they could be driven from the Magni headphone output... if you like rigging things.

2019, Chapter 17
Full Heresy Mode
Jason,
Magni 3 Heresy Edition is exactly what I have been hoping for: An opamp design with a linear power supply designed by one of the best in the business. Let the challenge begin!! I really want to see how this turns out!! And since Magni 3 Heresy Edition is the only way to get a black and red Magni, I'll be ordering one.

I really like the black and red. To quote Alex: "It might sell better just because it looks cool."

I will politely disagree. See the link below.

https://www.lineartubeaudio.com/products/mz2mz2-s

$1235 for the cheapest option.

This is way too much for a flea watt amp.

Also, I don't think you give yourself enough credit. You seem to have created a very nice company turning niche products into mainstream and profitable items.

The Emotiva A-100 for example is 250 now, made in China, has a fan. I rarely turn the volume pot past 9 pm in desktop mode.

I think there are a great many people interested in an all-in-one desktop speaker/HP integrated.

I don't believe top end power rating is the end all be all, and you probably don't either, I mean look at Aegir. People want SQ, which from the sounds of it, your continuity line delivers in spades.

You see a niche products for 300, I see people going "holy Schiit, it does all of that for 300!? I can ditch the chifi class D that I paid 170-230 for, and get a class A ish hifi speaker & HP amp instead? With the same topology that stereophile recently gave a Class A rating on!? Awesome! Where has this been all my life"

I would graciously ask you to reconsider your stance on it. Make it a thunderdome product.

Thanks and have a great day to all.
