Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

IMG_1345.jpg This is just messing around and the boards are a little narrow, but....the cool thing about rough sawed barn wood is very little work involved. Just leave it as you find it, nail holes, insect damage. This is inch thick seasoned oak, best to not even try to finish it. The two tubes on the top are perfectly fine to use in the Lyr 3, before we had dual triodes, there were single triodes. These Sylvania VT 192's (military tube) can be quite appealing. 7A4 equivalents.

Oooh Oooh Oooh….I *want* one. Except can I get it in rough sawn Purpleheart with polished titanium rods and sorbothane feet? Wait...scratch the feet, I have plenty of big a$$ solid brass feet that will be perfect overkill.

Seriously, that is like really cool.....

F3CCA58A-CD8A-40E5-BA48-01BDF8A17CF2.jpegI do have some rough sawed red cedar as well as some 3/4 inch barn wood that is a bit wider than my original sample. I also have something in mind for the copper pipe that should be pretty cool. Oh and I have some cherry that still has a rough edge but it has been planed and sanded on top and bottom. Let me build up a spiffy sample next week and then you can see what you think. Compared to the large rack this is easy lol.

E9B42A0A-A3DC-424E-A584-95504DAC7B07.jpegThis barn wood is closer to proper size, i drilled out the corners so the posts stay in place and have about an eighth inch to spare on each side. Width is pretty near perfect as well. There are some nice worm holes and nail holes in these pieces.

I knew you'd do a small rack.

Well yeah but I have much grander ideas in mind lol. This is easy stuff so far. Since @bcowen is interested it causes me to think of a much nicer design using shiny copper. I had collected a bunch of wood about this size when I was making some headphone stands. I also have a lot of extra copper pipe and fixtures laying around.

So what you're saying (meant in the nicest way, of course), is that I'm picky? :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue:

369 dollars for a 3 pack of the ones most similar to the ones shown by Mr Cowen.

Seriously, thats just crazy.

Well, crazy is a rather subjective term. Expensive, sure...but brass isn't cheap in whatever form you acquire it.

Forgive me if I missed if you already mentioned this, but is that a prototype Lyr 3?
