Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I use (and have used in the past) Panavise vises at work for years. I finally broke down and bought myself one this last weekend (along with a new soldering iron to replace my four decades-old Radio Shack Archer!).

I use a different base on the Panavise but all else is the same. I recognize the Hakko soldering station as well. I use a combination of Hakko and Weller when I build things at home. I recognize some of your audio gear on the bench, but the brand name escapes me right now.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am mainly interested in various interconnects and headphone cables. I use a double blind setup and have various wire of the same gauge, length, and twists encased in copper mesh. Strand count can vary quite a bit and in my collection i have everything from Litz wire to solid silver and most any kind of copper made.

Yeah, I couldn't justify $600 for a Hakko 203 like I use here at work, so had to resort to consumer-grade.

Looks like the Aegir should have enough power for my Monitor Audio Platinum PL100 II. They are nominal 6ohm and a sensitivity of 88dB @1W/1m. I would probably run them in mono so that makes it ~120W... I wonder how much of that is class A. I am assuming probably not 60W as it probably doesn't scale the same as overall power.

It's 40, windy, wet, & very gray here. I'd kill for 58. We had one week of nice fall weather before this crap hit.

Noooooo thank you. I had my fill of windy, wet, and gray in England/Okinawa!!!

How do you like that Hakko? Fry's runs a promo code on that model every once in a while and I've given it some consideration. It would be my first personal iron, and I've read it requires some calibration?

I haven't, but will be doing the DIY speaker thing, I'll post some pics of my buddys cabinet shop tomorrow, I could build any type of speaker cabinet there.

I am curious what is in the glass on the Schiit Coaster, Cuba Libre?

I'm curious as to why the Schiit stack components are different in appearance. The Vali 2 and Loki look to be a different metal type enclosure than the others. If I'm identifying them properly, it looks like a Magni 3, EITR, Mimby or Modi 2 Uber, Sys, Vali 2, and Loki. They should all be brushed aluminum -- except possibly Sys.

Any B stock purchases??

I've only barely used the 888, but I've used the Hakko 203, 951, 801, and 472 for a few years. Never had an issue with any of them. The 888 doesn't beep, doesn't have a "sleep" mode, and doesn't heat up quite as fast (room temp to 750 degrees Fahrenheit takes 50 seconds, OMG, LOL...the 203 takes 16 seconds). I had not heard of these needing any calibration, though I know they have temperature offset adjustments. A moot point for me, I suppose, as I don't have a tip meter/tester.

Yes indeedy. :tumbler_glass:

If you had said it is a diet coke my faith in humanity would have been greatly diminished. Pardon me for a moment I need to check NFL scores, there was a late game last night between some regional teams I think.

Interesting tidbit to me - when Mike is describing the pitch tuning of the Gadget, he goes on to explain dynamic range expansion, and beat alignment. I got the impression it was a tease of features he's working on adding to the Gadget, although I might be wrong and he might have only been mentioned what he wishes might be possible.

Indeed, the Vali and Loki are different finishes. They are all brushed aluminum (including the SYS), it's just that two of them were brushed...differently. The Vali is B-stock; the Loki is not. The Eitr and SYS are also B-stock, yet still have the proper finish. I asked Jason about it at some point (in this thread, I believe) but never heard back. No big deal, really.
