Retina 5k is not up for debate. I'm getting the 4.2ghz top of the line model, probably with the huge SSD and with third party ram (at 64gb). This is not because I render final cut all day, but because, if my 2009 iMac is any indication, I'd prefer to have a machine I can sit with for a while.

No problem there, it’s a good machine, and there’s no(??)/few video cards that will drive an external 5k monitor even if you wanted to build one. But when I built my hack I needed something with room for multiple internal drives. I might make a different decision if I was buying today, but it still works smoothly for something built in 2013 and running photoshop.

If I had the scratch I’d jump on an iMac Pro, but they start at $5k and shoot up to over $11k maxed out. I’ll wait until some of the tech trickles down...

That's very true, I don't truly feel that I need to upgrade my 4790k, and it's almost 4 years old. The 8700k is very tempting, but ddr4 prices are killing me.

I still have a 4770K and DDR3 RAM in my gaming rig. Upgraded to a 1080TI and still don't experience a bottleneck from my CPU. Thinking I'll hold off until DDR5 is out.

Indeed, the 1080 Ti was one of the best upgrades I've ever done, the absolute biggest being the 4790k upgrading from an fx 6350. I had SLI 970s before, and I'll never run SLI again. Horrible dev support, only about 60% more performance AND micro-stuttering, its just not worth it. I sold them a few months ago together for $500, making up most of the cost of my 1080 Ti

My motherboard SATA controller died last month so I ended up upgrading to a 8700K, good for epeen having 6 cores overclocked to 5Ghz :p Deliding is very important though as the stock temperatures are awful! Dropped a good 20°C changing the stock TIM. Having 45°C during gaming is good enough for me. Have both the CPU & GPU in a custom loop so it is pretty much silent as well :D

Got a sweet deal this summer so I upgraded my 4670K based rig to a 7700K one. Ended up buying a new PSU, case, and monitor too.
I think the only original parts from my 2013 build are the CPU cooler, one of the SSDs and my keyboard.

I had SLI 780's previously. One was stock, second was a FTW edition Dual BIOS I got for half the price of the first one, once the 980 was out. I was able to overclock the stock one to match the FTW edition one, and push both even further. SLI was at a golden age then, it seemed. I got nearly 100% performance boost on the bigger titles. I only sold mine for a little over $100 each, sadly.

I'll have to get a picture of my case, later today when I get home. I hopped on the tempered glass and RGB train. Have an all in one closed loop for my CPU and another for my GPU. I've never tried deliding, and not sure if I'd trust myself doing so.

Most of my current build is from 2013 as well. I anticipate I'll only be upgrading my motherboard, processor, and RAM come DDR5. Looking to add a 1TB SSD to my 500GB one, but the prices haven't dropped on those like I had hoped. Most likely will put an M.2 SSD in the next build.

Super looking computers. Do any of you use them in the stereo system? If so, do all the lights add noise to the power and audio circuitry?

I use optical out from my motherboard to my DAC. I haven't done any testing to see if it adds noise. But my case fans' sound would probably add more noise to open headphones than lighted fans would via the electrical system. Maybe if I had no music playing and I cranked the volume I could check, but it would be a moot point and unnoticeable once music was playing. Basically, ignorance is bliss here.
