Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Why are 5 shelves $149 whilst 4 shelves is $99? Why are shelves $99 in the first place?
A four shelf Vulcan rack is $99. The "extra shelf kit" is $49. Pretty fair price, actually. My home built flexi-rack cost about the same just for the parts. When we shopped for racks for the exhibit we found most "inexpensive" audio racks from Sanus and VTI and the like were a lot more. Plus they weren't the least bit interested in having their racks in our room.

If you know of a lower priced system let me know. My focus in writing about audio is always on low cost, high value gear.

Nice! Well proportioned and beatifull materials. So 3 leggs really is stable enough?

3 legs is very stable in my case. These are very heavy and with the gear on them nearly impossible to move!

Of course you could make a 3 legged rack that was unstable if not enough weight or its not equally distributed. 3 legs also has an advantage in that it will never wobble on an uneven surface.

Loving My Schiit!

For 2.0 listening(stereo-no subs), either lossless server running Foobar2000 or Onkyo 6 disc DVD changer as CD transport>Schiit Modi Multibit>Schiit Freya with Kenrad VT-231 tubes in gain stage, Tung Sol NP in buffer>Citation 5.1, 4 channel mode, bi-amping>Mirage M3si mains. Audioquest Ruby cables. Generally the curtains are pulled back when listening to 2.0, to open up the primary reflection for the Bipolar Mirages, I have added Bass traps in all corners of room and Acoustic panels on wall where possible(pic below). In 40+ years of being an audio enthusiast/audiophile, I have never been so elated with the sound of my system, very glad I ran across Schiit in the last couple years.

A lot of this is home made, evolving from the turn of the century. The "rack" was a book case/tv thingy we bought 37 years ago. Kind of cheap except all the frame and bracing was solid oak. One day I thought "I can make something from this old thing." So I cut it apart, and installed an oak top and trim. TT plinth partly made from two pieces of scrap 1" particle board laminated together that I scavenged one day thinking I could make something from it. Oak trim done on miter saw and router. In Lowe's one day they were closing out these beautiful 2" chopping boards for $20.00 each!! I bought them all. Then I bought a rubber door mat and cork, laminated it together and cut it up on a table saw for isolation feet. Eventually bought some maple form Mapleshade and beveled and finished myself. Half of the sound traps I made after buying a set from real traps.

Many years ago a light bulb went off in my wife's head. "This is something that people just keep onnnn doing isn't it!"

And so it goes at Schiit too!:beerchug:

Very Cool!! I really like the color on the curtains. The dog seems to be a sweet guy/gal. If you don't mind ..Where did you get the get Star Trek segmented mural? Also is it used for sound absorption from the wall? Or simply decorative. Thanks

Thanks, she's a gal, loves laying there. I built the Star Trek acoustic panels myself. FWIW the pictures were taken before I added the bass traps.

So I couldn`t sit and wait anymore. Build me a rack even cheaper as Slefty`s suggestion today.
(Notice the Vidar sized empty space below and I think I can fit in an Eitr somewhere too.)
Later I`ll try to get this right. The cables still bug me but it`s already much better.
All my other plans sofar were borderline insane and almost as expensive as a high-end rack.
Glad I opted for the cheap way out this time.

If I'm correct ... It seems that the Ragnarok is now in a separate section on the Schiit website called 'AMPS'

...and the USB section has been renamed USB 'Interfaces' !!

I might further suggest that there will be a new product under USB Interfaces and, of course, the VIDAR under AMPS ... just a guess
