Bill Nelson - made some great music... some of his best can't be had via streaming which sucks

Nice catch. Indeed it is.

Funny story. My first exposure to them was browsing through an LP rack as a pre-teen in our local K-Mart (of all places) in Grand Forks, ND. As you likely well know the cover to Sunburst Finish is rather risqué and as I was flipping through said records I suddenly saw that, thought what the hell, and looked around in haste to make sure that my mom didn't see me looking at a record cover with a naked woman holding a flaming guitar. Of course, I immediately knew I had to buy it, even though I'd never heard of them, and had to do it quickly before she discovered what I was doing. (She never would've let me buy it if she saw the cover.) I snatched it from the rack, holding it close to my shirt, went to the check-out--*whew* so far so good Mom didn't see me--put it down on the conveyor belt, then looked up to discover to my utter astonishment that the cashier was, of all people, my elderly blue-haired neighbor who lived a couple of houses down from us (I guess she was doing this gig on the side on weekends for extra cash or something). I was positively mortified, blushing red, and knew at that instant, she'd probably tell my mom that her son was buying (nearly) pornographic LPs. Well, too late now. As nonchalantly as I could I tossed a couple packs of gum on top of the record cover and laid a candy bar across it trying hide the naked woman along with a $10 bill, but she wasn't fooled, pushed down her glasses to look me squarely in the eye: "Well, Nicholas," she smirked "this looks like an interesting record."

It remains one of my all-time treasured albums--the guitar solo on "Crying to the Sky" is among my favorite ever--probably in no small part because of how I acquired it. (And said neighbor did indeed rat me out the next week, though Mom, to my utter astonishment, let me keep it as long as I didn't show the cover to my little brother or sister, or my father.) As my avatar indicates I'm a huge fan, and I enjoy a lot of Bill Nelson's solo work too.

Under the Pink in hi-rez just nails me to the chair. Still affects me deeply, still takes me on an emotional journey. Dunno why I felt the need to share this with the thread, though surely I am among kindred spiriits.
Hear, hear. She provided the soundtrack for a big swath of my life. I fell in love with her the first time I heard "Little Earthquakes".

You should strive to hear "Under the Pink" on vinyl.

You are a brilliant man with exceptional taste...

Now is my cheque in the post?

Joking aside, she is a great pianist. Personally, I like her performance of the Ravel Piano Concerto the best. Not the one handed concerto.

For Debussy, it's got to be Arturo Benedetti Michelangelli. He is one of my heroes. The tone and flow of the music. Try the Image Book 1 and 2. He really just lets the music pull forward and back so naturally. His timing is impeccable.
I love Debussy piano works! 😻 I have long loved this album by Alan Planès. I shall check out Michelangelli -- my exposure to him has been minimal so far.

By far, my favorite 'thing' with Martha involved is the Allegretto - Adagio from the Shostakovich Piano Trio No 2, performed live with her friends Gidon Kremer (another longtime favorite of mine) and Mischa Maisky. I think I've shared my love of this recording here before but I'll say it again: This performance, and particularly this movement, showcases some of the greatest and merriest and most joyful musicmaking I have heard anywhere in any genre. It is thrilling!

Oh, and I only have checks. Does that work? 😉

I'll check out the Shos. and the Planes.
That's enough checks for me...

Update the Kara F in silver is coming the UK store. Finally I can get one!

Good thing you weren't buying the Blind Faith lp, or Roxy Music's Country Life, or Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction, or Jerry Garcia's first solo album or Skylarking by XTC (the original idea) or...
I've always felt Nelson was under-appreciated as a guitar hero. Though he moved away from that in most of his solo work. Still good stuff.

Nice assortment. Delighted to see that Tom Waits record on there too. It's one of my most enjoyable listens on vinyl.

Ugh, Hania played in Portland not too long ago and I just couldn't make the trip happen. I bet it was wonderful. A beautiful artist in every way.

LOL. And, of course, I did buy that Roxy Music record a few months later (I figured I had carte blanche now as far as LP covers went). Mom saw that one too and said flippantly: "Is this a trend with you that I should worry about?"
