Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I've actually recreated that font (sort of) in the Forkbeard app. The name of your stack will show up in that font. And you'll also be able to rename your gear (especially useful when you have two mono blocks and need to know which is which), which will also use this font.

Now cue all the complaints about "I can't read that dang font!" ;p

What's a "LIUING AOOM"? 🤪 and is "MY ORC" a Lord of the Rings thing? 😁

Happy to oblige. :relaxed: The Schiit Font is what's known in typography as a "display font", used for visual impact and design purposes and not for readability, and it is not easily readable at all. I would argue that on a remote control, you want everything to be instantly recognizable at a glance for making quick adjustments.

I buy other gear just to get away from that font!!🤪🤪🤪
Kidding, I care more about the sound, mostly tube sound.

Exactly. That's why gear names and stack names are using that font. Everything else that actually needs to be easily readable is using standard, easy to read fonts.

I've never been a fan of talking to inanimate objects.

That's my specialty. To walls. To doors
And if I stand still and don't move...to
myself.

Anyhow...time for some Steve dialed up loud and some beer...

Maybe Jason will weigh in (when he has a moment) and address the possibilities of adding a music-sense feature to future amplifiers.
Probably quite trivial to implement on a technical level.

However... as a philosophical, perceptual task, we can't expect mere circuitry to reliably make the judgement call on what is music. Especially with the fringe cases.

For example, @bcowen wants to play the latest M. Manson recording. Not unlikely the forking watchdog would flag it as a system abuser fault, brick all the schiit and notify the appropriate authorities about the auditory crime of the century. Maybe just go with signal-sensing instead. 🤣

I'm not so sure about using the font for arbitrary user assigned names ("Living Room", "My DAC"). The font makes sense for Schiit product names ("Gungnir", "Yggdrasil") because it's almost like a logo for that product. However as demonstrated above, seeing "Living Room" in the font makes you pause and have to interpret it.

I know that album well. I once read a review where a guy absolutely hated it till he had listened to it seven times, then he thought it was pure genius!!!!🤣🤣🤣 He cautioned that it takes seven listens though.
Ha. Back in maybe 1990 Rolling Stone had it as the 3rd best record ever, in like 2010 it didn't make the top 500, guess they only listened once....

I thought it slipped but I did not realize how far! Rolling stone used to have many albums from 1967 through 1975 or so in their top 25 but times change and new albums emerge.🤪

Twas great catchin up live today @bagwell359 Can’t believe it’s literally been 34 years! (Well maybe 33 or 35, but heck). Awesome listening together, and thanks for those new tunes.

Bummed we lacked the ability to do the ‘cans, but can do so at your place next time.

What a great day. Some thing’s literally do span the decades. Walt and I used to do a lot of critical listening way back in the “days”. Today was a really blessed one, you don’t get November days warm enough to open all the listening room windows (thus unloading BASS) in November in New England very often. Heck, as in, maybe never before? 74F and humid.

Apogees were singing… Hana/Skoll/Kara were doing their thing… Yggy and our CD’s… it was 4 hours of reminiscing about the emotional magic of music long-loved. 50’s/60’s Jazz, great classical, and… just all the old favorites…

Bummed we couldn’t fit your Ragnarok in with those killer cans! (Adapters, we need stinkin’ adapters)! (Grin). Your headphones were gorgeous and can’t wait to hear them. (Kara can’t do the job, and I’ve no headphone amp other than Kara’s).

PS: Bismarck says “hi”, nice to meet you!image.jpg
Yup those Apogee's have aged like fine wine, the amp too. Very pleasant time, and we also talked about some of the other folks from back when, including using some of the same cuts we used for comparisons back then.

Yeah soon you get to hear the BMR's,which I am glad to have found, and thanks to Dennis Murphy the designer of crossovers for Salk for years and the developer of the fine BMR Philharmonic line which similar to Schiit sells direct, and his purpose is to offer the best at really sane prices.

All I can say is my next headphone purchase is going to wait for a good long time.
