Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I owned the Orangutan 0/93's, driven by a Shindo Cortese amp. They sounded great, although the limitations of the speakers were easy to find (extreme low bass, even some stand-up bass in jazz recordings, could make them audibly struggle.) I ended up building a subwoofer to augment them and crossing over at about 80Hz. They did sound very sweet, looked great, and I often miss them. I shut down my dedicated 2-channel room a few years ago and sold everything.
Oh my god, he makes them in birdseye 🤩

I have 17 years of experience with high end cables, in excess of 60 years of working with turntables and cartridges. I also have access to a lab where we can assure we get a faithful reproduction of the signal from the cartridge as well as the signal at the phono pre. Now at home I do not have the same test records and would look at each signal on a dual trace scope so I am a bit limited. I also hope to use a young woman whose hearing far exceeds anyone I have met to see if she can pick up on any differences after my custom switch box is completed, in a blind test of course. I do not place much stock in someone knowing when say a $1,000 cable is about to be used. From past experience I should be fine.🤪 Oh and the box will be pretty if I have the time. Here is one I did in solid cherry.IMG_6005.jpeg

By the way I thought of doing this before you talked of three identical turntables etc. I can only convince two engineers in my group to help out but getting test subjects is easily done, and they will not have the high frequency loss that comes with age.
Is it at all possible to build a 2-in, 1-out, SPDIF switcher with RCA's that won't corrupt the digital signal?

I need one.

That is not difficult, you are talking S/PDIF over coaxial cables. Solid copper core, well shielded. Maybe a custom cabinet. I believe I have some half inch rosewood or bloodwood that could make a fine cabinet.

I have promises to keep but I could certainly gift you that when time allows.

Yes, over coax.

Well the RCA connectors were a bit of a giveaway, I was just thinking out loud.🤪 I run such a cable to a Gungnir so it would be easy enough to test and I have a Bifrost close by.

I looked at Amazon for something but all they had were coax to tos and tos to coax converters.
Those are not what I need...Aack!
If I do it, it will have to be pretty. 🤣 A little bloodwood and tiger maple would match your Tyr platforms.

I should have this style of RCA Jack in my shop. They are extremely well made and make for a solid connection going into hardwood. IMG_6363.jpeg
