I know It's knew, but has anyone heard this player? From the little I've read about it, it sounds pretty good. It would be even better if someone like SACDmods would mod it for me later in the future.

It should sound very close to the old SCD-CE775 in SACD playback - and pretty decent in Redbook CD-DA playback for its price. However, the build quality is reputedly not as good.

I have had the CE595 for almost a month by now, and yes, the SACD performance is very good. CD playback is not bad either. Build quality? I think it's quite good for a $150.00 player....people who knows the CE775 think the build quality of the CE595 is better.

Have you compared this unit to the SCD-C2000ES ?

The internal pictures of both units seems very similar with some exceptions:

http://www.massivemaximumtheater.com/misc.htm

Both uses the same disc tray.
Both located the same lense mechanism at the same place and looks the same too.

The first power supply is the same.

The 2000ES uses another power supply for the digital applications.

The 595CE has an additional cap (10) while the 2000ES uses (9).

All the caps seems to be the same size ( don't know the values).

The front looks alike with the 595CE in black and the 2000ES in silver.

The weight difference is minimal ( maybe because the additional transformer).

Both are very easy to modify since their boards are at the right side of the units and with lot of space to work them out. Previous models has their guts under the disc tray.

Oade Bros. are offering them for $295 and they also have an upgrade version on the works ( this week they said) by changing some stock caps for better caps from Sony....( I prefer Nichikon Gold or similar, but...). They said this mod will not void any warranty which is 5 years on the ES.

I believe this unit will benefit from a better filtering with better caps. The DACs are said to be BB-1751's which are the same number for the stocked Toshiba-SD3950/3960.

There is another store in NJ which have the 2000ES announced for $249

http://shop.store.yahoo.com/expressa...cdc2000es.html

but I know nothing about them and the person who bought a unit from them told me that they will deliver it in a few weeks ( ??? )....

So...any opinion or experiences with these units? My birthday celebration will be on 9/24 and I'm itching to buy one....but I need to be sure before commiting to a bad experience!!!

Sorry, Jose....have been out of town. I haven't had the chance to compare the CE595 to the C2000ES. However, over at the Steve Hoffman website, there're 2 threads on the CE595 (10 pages long) and the C2000ES

A long thread on the CE595

A comparison between the C2000ES and the CE595

If I have the cash, I would go with the C2000ES. However, for $150.00, I think the CE595 is the better buy.

Gracias Soundboy...

Men, we are expecting a Tropical Strom which began with 30 m/ph winds and now is a 60 m/ph storm with good probabilities to be a Cat-1 Hurricane. It will hit us on a few hours from now....God bless us!!!

Regarding to the 2000ES here is a pair of letters I received from Jim Oade, from Oade Bros.

"hi jose, sorry for the delay in getting back to you,
but we have been looking at doing some upgrades,
but have not completed them. they are using some
new chip sets we have been unable to obtain data on.
we will probably know something in a few days, and if
you decide you can always send it in later for the
upgrades."

"hi jose, we just hooked the 2000 up to a high end
system, as we had been listening on a mid fi shop
test system with near field monitors not set up in
the ideal fashion, and have come to the conclusion
that it blows away the old scdc555 and 222es. it has
a much more precise image, and a much deeper, wider,
and taller sound stage. it is also not so "aggressive",
or bright out of the box, but rather has a more open,
relaxed sound. i am happy to report these findings...jim"

Remember that this is his opinions although they are reliable sellers. I'm very enthusiastic about this player but now I have to deal with the hurricane....

Thanks God we are fine, althought there were million$ lost and two persons died from Tropical Storm Jeanne ( 70 mph winds )....

I just expended what I have for my birthday present , a Sony SCD-C2000ES. We incurred in several investments like a new power generator ( Honda 6500watts ), water reserve with pump and other minor things. Maybe by December Santa could bring me one !!!

The important thing is, we are fine and tomorrow the kids will go to school...

Thanks for your prays.

Those are my pics, IMO both are great and both are a bargain.

Though ES pieces can usually be discounted by a good margin so I took that into account, at full MSRP Id have to side with the C595ES as the best bang for the buck.

In the end I returned them both and bought a Denon DVD 2900 but id still be happy with those Sonys for SACD playback.
