I was listening to my Fuze lastnight and everything went well for about 1hr or so than all of a sudden it would simply shut down, I had thought perhaps I accidently presed the shutdown button on it, so I turned it back ON and during this process it would say "refreshing media" than while doing this it would shut down again, I tried to turn it back ON and again back to refreshing media it would simply shut down.

I than decided to recharge it overnight thinking it would fix it but finally it did turn ON fully and would stay ON for about say 40 secs than again just simply shut down.

The prob here is that its not staying constantly ON

Help or advice pls.

Thanks

Had a white-out problem a couple of weeks back.

I'll save you the tech support wait, here is what they sent:

Thank you for emailing SanDisk Technical Support. It is our goal to make sure you have all the resources you need to get the most from your product.

The issue is most likely due to corruption. We can resolve this by resetting the player, updating its firmware, or formatting it:

STEP 1: Soft Reset

Simply slide up and hold the power switch for 20 seconds. The soft reset would refresh the player. After doing the soft reset, try to turn on the player once more. If this didn't resolve your issue continue to step 2.

STEP 2: Firmware Update

Firmware controls the functions of your device (how your device operates). In cases where the product does not perform as intended, the update fixes the issue by replacing the current firmware with the enhanced version.

To manually update the device's firmware follow the instructions below.

Verify the Hardware Revision of your Sansa Fuze:

1. Turn on your Sansa Fuze.
2. Select Settings from the main menu.
3. Look at the Version.
Revision 1 = 1.XX.XX (example: 1.01.15)
Revision 2 = 2.XX.XX (example: 2.01.16)

Formatting on MSC Mode:

To format your device we need to change mode to MSC (Mass Storage Class). When in MSC mode your player functions as a regular removable drive. NOTE: Formatting will delete all the files in your device. If possible, you may create a back-up copy of your files from your device to the computer.
1. Open "My Computer"
2. Turn off the Sansa Fuze.
3. Put the device in Hold (move Hold button until orange is showing).
4. Press and hold the Left/Rewind Button.
5. Plug the 30-pin connector into the device (be sure the USB is plugged into the computer).
6. Wait for the Sansa Fuze drive(s) to show up.
7. Right click on "Sansa Fuze" and select Format.
8. Set File System to “FAT 32,” uncheck Quick Format then click "Start" and “OK.”
9. Follow instructions below and drag files to the Sansa Fuze drive.

STEP 3 - Let's Update your firmware. Please click on this link to download the:

Revision 1 - Sansa Fuze Firmware 01.02.28:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmwa...ze01.02.28.zip

Revision 2 - Sansa Fuze Firmware 02.02.28:
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/firmwa...ze02.02.28.zip

1. Ensure your battery is > 50% full.
2. Extract the .zip file into a folder on your computer.
3. Once extracted, drag the file to the root directory of your Sansa Fuze.
4. Disconnect the Sansa Fuze and let it begin the firmware update.
5. Once it finally finishes doing its update, it will turn itself off.
6. Turn the Fuze on Select your language and region preference
7. Once its back to the main menu, head to "Settings" > "System Settings" > "Info," and verify the "Version" is now 01.02.28 or 02.02.28.

Just re the format will it erase the Folders that are already pre built into the Fuze eg Music, Podcasts, Photos etc. I dont care if my music files go can always put them back on, just dont want the folders to erase.

It's a firmware update,so the folders will be restored.

Copy any media folders from the Fuze before you do the reformat.

When you drag and drop the extracted .zip file onto the sansa drive it will load the folders, shiny and new!

The firmware that's running the Fuze is deliberately less accessible to the user.

Now right-click on the Fuze's icon and select Format... from the context menu.
It should come up as a FAT32 file system by default, but double-check it. And don't select Quick Format.
Click Apply or OK or whatever it needs to continue the formatting process. This will erase all content you've put onto your player giving you a clean slate to start over with and freeing up all your available memory.

What else are you trying to do?

I just hope it wont erase the pre built in folders such as Music, Podcast, Photos etc, I dont mind if my content is erased but dont want the default foldrs themselves to go.

Remember, these steps were sent from SanDisk tech support.

If you follow through with each step and your player still has the problem then it is beyond the scope of this process and will likely have to be sent in for physical repair-that's what I was told.

Format with windows wipes out everything but the firmware.
I did it several times to identify a problem with my Fuze, which was functional after each format and firmware update.

If isn't working now, what else have you got to lose?
