I planning to buy a new mp3 player to replace my old player iRiver T10 . My experience: iriver t10 is good at high, mid and incredible detail but it lack bass, the bass is flat, roll off, even with EQ. I also own a iRiver Clix gen 1 and it sounds very good, with df eq, it still sounds very good and with eq ( +3 100hz, +2 1000hz) the bass is incredible, i enjoyed it very much. Now i want a new mp3 player with good bass as the clix, mid and high is not important.
So between these: Samsung z5, Creative Zen, iAudio U3 which one have better sound quality (the bass is very important here!!!!)

any reason u arent looking at the Iaudio 7 rather than the U3? price dropped to ~$125 for an 8gb Iaudio7... that's monstrous value!

I admit I have not heard the other two but I used to have an iAudio U3 (I still regret I sold it) and the SQ is superb (google for RMAA results). It even has something called "Mach3Bass" that might just be for you. Its only weak point is its joystick.

i think you might be dissapointed with the cowon after the clip. the sansa is an mp3 player that is very special when driving low imp phones. there are very few players that can drive bass of portable phones with imp lower than 60. the sansa clip, express, sony 600 and 800 series as well as the 1g shuffle are players that can do this.

mach3bass is a software implementation that will not compare to a real push pull output from the likes of the sansa. unless you are using large low sensitivity and high imp phones, i would recommend you go for something like a the sansa clip again.

i am a d2 owner (former) which has a little more powerful output than the iaudio 7. neither player does well when driving small phones. in fact, have quite heaps of bass roll-off.
