I am considering buying the Samsung galaxy s captivate for use as a Dedicated pmp. I will not be activating the phone, so will only be using it for voodoo/cyanogen dsp manager/poweramp.

For $100, can anything outright beat it, or am I getting a steal?

For around the price of the galaxy player 5 you should be able pick up a brand new sealed original galaxy s (just bought a t-mobile vibrant t959 sealed) for 284 dollars.  You get a better screen, voodoo sound and more internal memory (in the case of the vibrant 16gb).
