Did anyone catch the S4 keynote? A number of interesting specs, features on the AV front:

- 5" Super AMOLED 1080p, 441ppi screen
- Gorilla Glass 3
- can share tunes via NFC and playback in stereo or 5(6?) channels on 2, 5 S4s
- use of dual cameras (13MP rear, 2MP front) simultaneously for photos, video calls
- IR blaster for remote control
- 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9mm (5.38 x 2.75 x 0.31")
- 130g (4.59 ounces)
- 2GB RAM, 16/32/64GB User memory + microSD slot (up to 64GB)
- 2,600 mAh removeable battery
- Availability end of April 2013
- No mention on pricing

Like the inclusion of temperature and humidity sensors along with the health push. Wonder if we'll see a Wolfson on all variants. Guess we'll have to wait for the teardowns. Would like to see tactile play, FF, RW buttons for blind control in a true portable source.

Here is a tear down. It is in Chinese. Couldn't recognize any mention of a DAC.

I wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. got f!@#$d on the S4. We did with the S3, and will continue to do so I think.

I have not used there phone. What is it that they did or didn't do for the US version?

Wolfson DAC was only on International versions. Also instead of Quad core processors we have dual-cores. Every provider had a different model, it's crazyness. I understand that the radio for the phone has to be in a different spectrum, but did they have to change appearance, DAC, and processor.

I'm worried its going to be $300 with contract, but on paper the specs look amazing

Deja vu. Qualcomm should buy out Wolfson and integrate their IP into the Snapdragon SoC. With the N. American S4s, it appears the Snapdragon 600 will handle the audio processing.

- 28nm Quad-core 1.9 GHz Krait 300 CPU
- Hexagon QDSP6 for ultra-low power audio playback and video enhancements
- Speed enhanced Adreno 320 GPU with support for advanced graphic and compute APIs, including OpenGL ES 3.0, DirectX, OpenCL, Renderscript Compute
- HD multichannel sound with DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus audio and FlexRender

Wonder if the Intl S4 will have the same WM1811 in the S3.

The international S4 (GT-i9500) will use a Wolfson DAC, WM5102. There is an issue though. The software converts everything to 48Khz instead of leaving it at 44.1Khz.
