I'm currently looking for a new pair of headphones to use on my digital piano and listen to music at home, specifically flat, realistic, good soundstage and neutral sound, I mainly listen to classical, instrumental and jazz. ( I know it's probably too much to ask for this price point).

I have a pair of Takstar Pro 80 that I use on my PC for gaming/movies/music, they are quite good headphones but are a little bass heavy and they lack a little bit of soundstage.

At the moment I'm using a pair of Samson SR850, on my Kawai ES100, I like the soundstage and sound on these cans have but they are now quite old and are uncomfortable for extended use.

So I'm looking for a replacement, open or closed over the ear cans.
The very few options that fit my budget and are available in my country:

Sennheiser HD 558
Audio Technica M40X
Samson Z35
Shure SRH440
Sennheiser HD 280 Pro
AKG K240 MK II

Anyone has any experience with the Z35, I'm really interested since there are no reviews of these headphones at the moment.

Samson is shipping me a set of brand new Z35 headphones (closed back), free of charge, to replace my beloved (but unreliable) SR950s. The cord and plug went bad. I have to say, from day one, right out of the box, there was some very suspicious-looking insulation about an inch above the plug itself.  It looked like it had been melted/re-worked with some heat shrink tubing at the Samson factory.

The tech support lady at Samson told me that my new Z35s should arrive in about a week - 10 days.

Anyway, I'll post my first impressions here.

Hi Niggght -

Just got my pair of Samson Z35s -  Samson replaced my SR950s with these, free of charge.

They just work. Great. Sound is fantastic. Clean, flat, but powerful...kinda hard to explain. Deep bass extension, crystal clear high-mids to high, clean, sparkling treble. No spikes, no surprises anywhere. Very real presence, convincing sound stage. Fit is very comfortable, real leather earpieces, they don't get hot & sweaty at all (so far - been listening to ambient/trance for about an hour). Very efficient, 40 mm drivers, 32 ohms, so they crank.  Which I've done, and they do not break up or lose definition. Excellent, durable materials, fit & construction. Tasteful, "smoked" chrome accents. These cans are very portable - they fold up in a nice, tight bundle. Not much to look at, but they're very deceptive...because they deliver so much, sonically. Includes 1/8" - 1/4" gold adapter and pleather pouch. 2 year warranty. The ultimate pair of "sleeper" cans if there ever were. Get them. You will not be disappointed.
