In today's paper I read the obituary for Vic Firth.
 
Drummer/percussionist for the Boston Symphony orchestra who was not satisfied with the available drum sticks, so he had his own custom made. This eventually turned into a business.
Great anecdote at the end, him playing with the Grateful Dead.
