Please tell me your opinion on what format is better the classic analog vinyl or the newer digital media. Or maybe u think that the CD beats both? Express your opinions please.

I think that Vinyls are great because they are collectible , u can get them cheap and they can be in good condition and the artwork is bigger and thus looking better. The cons are that they can be worn if they are used (but u can just not buy them) especially the covers (but still u can work on them to restore them). I think that a good turntable system in combination with a good cartridge (which would cost no more than $700 in total--the turntable used) virtually doesnt cause wear to your records. They could be played for hundreds of times before you could hear any real degradation. Or maybe more.

The CDs are most common they sound good to me, maybe a little bit plastic at times. I dont know if this would be good for certain kinds of music. They dont wear and degrade for sure and they are smaller.

The SACD and DVD-A i dont know much about. But i guess they sound more like vinyl. But is the difference significant? Which is better?

Could it be that a more than fifty years' old technology is better than the top of the line high end technology of 2003?

Last night I bought a used copy of Shostakovich's cello concerto by Rostapovich. Vinyl of course. I've never heard it on vinyl before, but when I did, I was absolutely blown away. For the first time in a long while I truely found myself lost in the music. The clarity and the depth of the cello made it feel as I was in the room. I wish you could all come over to my tiny appartment and experience the same. TOnight I'm goingt o spen my while paycheck on buying all my favorite pieces on vinyl. What a timely topic

i got some used LPs too lately and when i have time i will clean carefully each and every one of the covers the discs and then take out the pen writings on some and replace some worn paper envelopes for the LP (dont know how its called) and then put all of them in those PVC plastic protective things and start listening to them with my new Sennheisers HD 580.
Thanks for inviting to your apartment for music listening but i guess that then we would need speakers or i should bring my headphones together and a splitter of some sort.
J.K.

How many LPs u got?

I have giant yamaha towers that I modified wit new tweeters and mids, crossed over each speaker individually and power the lot with an ancient Gemini amp. I love this setup more than anything I've ever heard under ten grand. Maybe I have bad taste in equipment, but who cares? My headphones are just etymotic er6's, which I'm not listening to anymore. No bass response. I can't stand that.
How many lp's? not many, but I'm VERY particular about the miusic I listen to. I also reserve my LP's for dedicated listening, which I only get to do maybe once a week. Enjoy your setup, but enjoy the music more.
