My Denon 2200 arrived today, which I picked up for about $300 on E-bay, which is my first SACD capable player.

It took me about 5 minutes to plug it in and run an RCA to mini adapter to my Total BitHead so I could finally hear the high resolution layer on my small SACD collection of SACD/Redbook hybrids. I started with Dark Side of the Moon. The sound was quite nice on my K-701's for a minute or two until the clipping indicator began to flash, as I had anticipated it would. I can't wait for the MicroAmp I ordered to arrive--that will solve that problem in a heartbeat.

Anyway, having nothing to lose, I decided to try hooking the miniplug into my Xin SuperMicro III which, for those tht don't know, is the size of a 9 volt battery and operates on a single AAA battery. To my amazement, it sounded pretty good. There was no clipping, although the sound was definitely blunted in comparison to the Total Bithead when it wasn't clipping. The Xin SuperMicro III is an amazing little amp. It's not the best headphone amp in the world, but it sure is versatile for being so incredibly tiny.

I meant to post this in the amp forum; sorry about that.

Moved.

Btw, try an external power supply, like one you can get from Radio Shack, instead of batteries. Makes a bit difference when feeding hungry cans from the Air/Bithead line.

Thanks jpelg.

Is it possible to run a BitHead off of external power rather than batteries or USB?

I know you can do that on the AirHead, but I don't know how you could do it on the BitHead. I don't know anything about power supplies, however (and the Rat-Shack website is a little overwhelming).
