This has been confusing me for a bit.
 
Is S/PDIF the same as optical out?

Both optical and coaxial is S/PDIF.
Optical is light, Coaxial is electrical
 
But I guess it's fairly common to label the optical port as S/PDIF and the coaxial port as COAX.
