I've been having some problems with my formerly trusty "Red Wine Audio iMod" that I bought here off another head-fi'er used a very long time ago. Namely the screen was having problems, so I replaced that. Unfortunately when I put it back together, the hard drive can't be recognized. I ruled out the hard drive (I swapped it for a known working one). I am hoping it is the ZIF cable.
Anyway, while changing the screen, I got a look at the front of the logic board and ... it clearly does not look modified (see photo). As I understand the mod, it should have wires routing the signal around and a couple capacitors desoldered? Or is the RWA iMod a different thing than the diyMod?
I bought it so long ago (~8 years ago) and I think the person I bought it off of also bought it used, so I don't think it's worth tracking down the source of who made the switch. But I'm the one stuck holding the bag so to speak.
Lessons learned....I guess it is hard to verify if you buy a used iMod or diyMod that you are actually getting what you are getting unless you are willing to go in and open it up.
Caveat emptor.
