Was curious what folks were using to connect their 5/5.5G iModded iPods to amps that don't have mini inputs.

Has anyone tried either of the two cables that ALO has listed on the website? If so, how's it sound?

Thanks

You do not want to use a cable that is not built for the 5G iMode with a 5g iMod cause that caps are in the cable not in the device Vinnie has customized. You can fry your amp if you use a regular Doc out.

I am using the ALO Super Cotton Doc with my iMod 5g. If I wanted to use my quarter inch device then I would now use a standard adapter plug. Ken is building a Doc adapter that will provide quarter input to be used with a stereo system. This has been discussed in the ALO threads.

My amp being the Xin Reference has both eighth and quarter inputs that I can use. Due to the size of my ALO Super Cotton doc I can't get both in at the same time. My Xin Reference also has eight and quarter outputs.

thanks slwiser....so your iMod dock just has the standard mini (1/8") connector right? I've got the Gold x Silver iMod dock and love it.

I am now looking for an iMod --> RCA dock and was just curious if anyone was using either of the two models that Ken currently offers. I believe one of them he calls the "Super Kind" dock.

Yes mine has the eighth inch mini out.

Now that 5G is out everyone needs to make sure not to mix up the doc between the regular iPod/iMod(4g) and the 5G that Vinnie has done.

Hey, I use the so-called female dock line out (no. 6 on this page). This way, I can use whatever cables I want to from that point forward, with little perceived difference in SQ. I personally use a couple of cables. In my portable rig right now, I use a little mini-to-mini that's of low quality but such a short signal path that I'm not terribly worried about it. In my home rig, I use an Audio Quest Mini-1 that goes mini-to-RCA.

I could do worse, though I could also do better. But at least the female dock allows me to change the other cables.

i got a female dock also for the compatibility. since i have some 1/8 mini cables, i might as well just keep them. i'm also going to have a diy make a 1/8 mini to rca cable for home amps.

Hi Aluren,

Blackmax is quite a nice mini 2 rca cable. Also not expensive. You may want to have a try.

Any impressions the sound difference between a 4G iMod and a 5/5.5 G iMod? Thanks.

It seems to me that Ken did mentioned he was not offering the Super Kind dock then in one of his thread. So probably you are the first one. How much for the dock? I couldn't find the quotation.

Check out Ken's iMod page. Its cable #5. Price is listed there.
