Hi all, first post in a long time.

Anyway here's the story: I'm looking for some relatively inexpensive phones for running and working out in.

I have done the in-ear thing (er-4p) and though awesome it is not what I want in a workout phone due to both the cable microphonics and the isolation. Traditional headphones in addition to the "street style" (nice branding sony...) around-the-back headphones are nice, but a little too bulky: I want to be able to wrap these around an ipod shuffle or similar and pop them into my pocket where I will forget about them. Now here's a complicating factor for you smart cookies out there: any earbud type 'phone falls out of my ear very quickly, so even though I believe the standard ipod earbuds are of a decent quality for this application, their form factor is not.

So... let the recommendations begin, please. I suspect some of you out there will know of some nice clip-on style or otherwise lightweight, compact, and fuss-free 'phones for me and my exercise, and for that, I thank you in advance.

If you need further "narrowing," I would prefer 'phones which do not bleed too much sound (I'm rocking SR-60s right now and although I feel I'm doing the world a favour by opening their minds to my music, it's not always appropriate

Thanks a bunch,

Koss KSC75 if you want clip on. No contest.

If you want in-ear without so much isolation, look up the JVC Marshmallow HAFX-33 or Creative EP 630.

x2

What you want is impossible -- you don't want earbuds or anything that isolates (canalphones and IEMs), but you want it to fit in your pocket (only earbuds, canalphones, and IEMs will). At a budget, it's either the KSC75 clipon or the JVC Marshmallow canalphone.

The KSC75 sounds significantly better but is a bit of a hassle when it comes to fitting in a pocket. The Marshmallow, on the other hand, is very small, costs the same, and only isolates somewhat (which, in a noisy gym, is probably a good thing, as it will keep you from cranking your music too loudly). I recommend the Marshmallows for your tastes.

Thanks so much for the very speedy replies. Took a peak at both and they're looking good. What about the earbud style 'phones with a little wraparound structure: any fans of those?

Thanks guys,
Cam

PS: what about something similar to these sonys: http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...n100128n100133 or http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...n100128n100133

Yay? Nay?

all I will say is don't. Those are what I'd consider "crunch headphones", if say you absolutely needed some and those were the only ones available. They can't compare to the KSC 75's. Just get those, you won't be disappointed.

Point taken! That's the kind of feedback I was looking for. I'll check out the KSC75 and the marshmallows, see what kind of fit I get and go for it I guess.

Thanks a bunch guys, case closed!

Personally, I use my Senn MX75 sport buds as my workout phones, although I usually try not to listen to music while exersicing, since it is too distracting IMO. Anyways... so I think the Senns sound almost as good as Shure e3cs after some EQing, but they don't isolate of course.

My 2g shuffle/KSC75 combo works great.

I run and work out with my KSC75 every night. Working out, lifting and things like that work great, but I can't run with them without a headband or beanie on. But to be honest, I actually like how they sound better with a headband on! It makes the bass more noticeable and everything just sounds more balanced.

So it's really not a negative at all

I have both the ER-4p and the Er-6i. For a workout phone, you should consider the 6i's. Out of a portable player, sound is pretty close(out of a portable atleast). The difference between the 4p and the 6i is that the 4p has more dynamic and better extended highs and diplays better control over the sound spectrum(only slightly noticed through an mp3-player though). You only notice a HUGE difference between the 2 when you have a headphone amp and a good source. The 6i's are pretty durable too even though they look really flimsy. The ER-6i are great a pair of phones for the money and you will be very happy with them if you like the Etymotic sound signature.
