Hi all,

I recently bought a Fiio E17K, and hooked my headphones up to it for my computer. Whenever I turn the volume on it to about 30/60, it starts to give me an electrical rumbling sound. Is it supposed to do that past a certain point? I am fairly new to this stuff in general, so any help would be appreciated.

I'm using it with Senneheiser 558s, have the gain set at 0, and have not messed with any of the other settings yet (balance, bass, treble, etc). Windows volume is at 100.

Thanks again!

Not normal for equipment in general (my Meier Cantate.2 has zero noise of any kind even when set to max with no music playing), and not for the E17K either.

If its electronic, try to open a music player app but don't play any music. If the noise goes away then it's just a bug. My Note3 used to do that with my back up DAC-HPamp.

If it doesn't go away try other USB ports.

BTW..if it's "rumbling" and not buzzing...are you sure it's electronic? Maybe you have bass boost on.

Tried what you just mentioned, but no luck. I'm pretty sure its not something bass boost related after checking Windows settings, but I think I also didn't describe it very well. Probably should have just googled the sound to paint a better picture first haha

It sounds something like this:

Nt Windows, the E17K. The older E7 and E07K had bass boost, check if that one has it too.

Well definitely not a "rumble," that's a buzz. Rumble is like how your stomach sounds like when you have a light bout of diarrhea that comes out like thick peanut butter. Buzz is like bee, which is what that is.

Very likely not bass boost related but if you're going to trouble shoot disable the E17K's bass boost if it has one anyway. If it goes away then the problem is in the bass boost circuit and definitely on the E17K, so you can try getting it replaced under warranty.

More likely something coming off the computer or the mains though.

You're most likely hearing the noise floor of the amp, kind of like when you have the volume up really high on a speaker thats not playing anything. You either have a faulty amp or your headphones are too sensitive and you need something like the ifi buddy/headphones that require more juice like the fostex t50rp.

Well you say 30/60 what do you mean. Electrical rumbling also what do you mean? The 558’s really don’t need a amp so what are you trying to do?
