Just flipped open the Sept 05 issue of Stereophile only to find a review of Ray Samuels' Emmeline SR-71. Congratulations on the review, Ray! It was a favorable review but more importantly it means more exposure to a larger audience. Keep up the good work.

Just read it. Congrat's Ray. A very favorable review. The reviewer said he preferred, ever so slightly, his MuFi xcan v3 to the SR-71, but said the SR-71 was excellent at both portable use and home use. Extremely complimentary. Kudos.

This is really nice to see. Congrats, Ray! Like all of the Emmeline line of amps, the SR-71 does an excellent job with any music and any headphones you can possible throw at it because it just gets out of the way and passes the signal through as clean as a whistle.

Congrats Ray. Well deserved for sure. The SR-71 is a steal at that price.

When is the last time you read an unfavorable review in Stereophile? I am sure it will make the recommended components section also.

Imagine that, it was beat out by Mu-Fi. I am sure the SR-71 is better than the X-can, but Stereophile has to keep its bread and butter happy!

I doubt that they would openly criticize one of their advertisers, however, what I think they do is screen the components they are thinking about including in the magazine. I think the poor sounding or poorly built items never make the cut. In the end all you read about in Stereophile are the cream of the crop.

Being that Ray is not an advertiser in Stereophile (at $1600 for a 1/4 page add, it would be tough to validate for a headphone amp), it is nice that a review was written for him. He is now in the big leagues, and deservedly so. He has created innovative designs in niches that were untapped and his insight is what keeps the market flourishing. He is passionate about his work, and this is his Andy Warhol's 15 minutes.
Musical Fidelity has a stronghold on Stereophile and while they make good products, they are average at best, but they line Stereophile's pockets each month. Ray's phonostage received a B rating in the recommended components list and that was only because of pricepoint.
This is a prime example of how hard work and perserverence, can pay off. I wish him and the other component builders at Head-Fi, a long and illustrious career, and I envy those who can make a living, doing something they really love. Now if only the p#rn industry would finally realize my potential.

Haha I hadn't read this thread but we were talking about the review at the meet last night. I've never read Stereophile but I truly did have the inkling that the MuFi was an advertiser and that they'd tout the x-can as a better home amp. Sorry to hear my suspicions were verified.
