I was curious to know two things:

1. Is it safe (for both the Hornet and stereo) to use the Hornet as a line out? So the way I have it setup is Ipod --> Cry dock --> Hornet (med Gain) --> AUX/MD in on my stereo.

2. Assuming that the above is safe for the equipment, would using an Ipod dock product like the Apple dock or Arcam dock yield better SQ results?

It's not going to damage your equipment, but the Hornet is not very transparent in my opinion. You would be better off using the line-out from your iPod.
