If we only bought headphones for EQ, who would bother with headphones over $200 anyway? I mean, hell, it's not that far off the Orpheus, either, to be frank.

If we rely on Frequency graphs only then $1 phones can be more competetive then $1000 cans. What graphs shows is it's sound signature rather then it's qualty, naturality and instrument seperation. And Grado's and koss are similar in sound signature IMO. So, there is no wonder. It can only help to decide your taste whether you like more highs, mids or lows.

Actually I don't think they're THAT close. There are marked differences in the critical presence area and lower treble. Funny-looking coloration on the RS-1, you can see the effect of resonances in the undampened wood tubes behind the drivers.

Awfully close? From about 600 Hz to 3.5 kHz, yes, but the Orpheus both has less (but dead-flat to 40 Hz) bass and is brighter, with hardly any "anti-fatigue dip" and a slight "detail peak" around 9 kHz.

What FR graphs can never tell, of course, is spatial cues given by internal reflections and such.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say the RS-1 is neutral. It's known for its coloration.

Yeah the RS1 has some peaks around 2-5k IMHO thats accounts for its "shouty at times" character.

Frankly, I don't care what that graph says, because there's no way on heaven and earth that the sportapro's can sound anything like the RS-1!!

Kinda makes graphs render useless to me!
