hello everyone...quick question regarding the RS-1 cans - - what are the symptoms of a damaged and or unbalanced driver? sometimes I forget to turn the volume down when i switch sources and as a result a surge of sound pounds my eardrums which hurts like a bitch! the pulse of high volume sound lasts for nothing more than a second....has my drivers suffered damage?

I think that you'd need to push serious voltage [spikes] into the drivers to fuse the voice coils... if you did that, everything would sound somewhat flat, and would distort easily..

...other than that, you could damage the diaphragm... that would result in distortion in the bass... that is potentially repairable if that happens... several members here have repaired their ill Grados in that way...

...Probably no harm done, but i'd suggest starting to remember to turn down the volume to avoid the potential...

Pops can damage phones (and speakers... anyone do studio mixing and maybe turn off an old-school synth by mistake? I happened to be looking directly at an NS10M and... damn). Avoid if at all possible, but hopefully it shouldn't be a huge problem. If you can't hear anything wrong afterwards, it shouldnt be damaged.
