Hi all,

I had a question about something that I'm not sure is an issue anymore. I remember some time back that there were some QC issues with the newer (at the time) RS-1s (and RS-2s?). I don't want to stir up any bad blood or whatnot, but I was curious as to whether that issue got resolved. Thanks.

I think your first sentence contains the answer. I'm a Grado guy and I've been roaming around here for over three years. Not saying anything absolutely, but I've never heard of it.

I have a buttoned RS-1, and its built very well actually.

I had an issue with my buttoned RS-1. The joint where the post meets the cup bracket went out. Structurally, that's a weak point and the design could be better.

I bought them used and they were out of warranty, anyway, so I decided to try epoxy before sending them in. I carefully sanded the post so it would have "teeth" for the epoxy to grab onto. I used a dental pick to clean out the hole in the bracket, then inserted a toothpick with some sandpaper wrapped around it, again, so there would be something for the epoxy to hold onto.

Next I cleaned the post and the hole with denatured alcohol on a paper towel, so the surfaces would be clean. Then I got the toughest epoxy at the hardware store, mixed it together, and applied it per the instructions. I lightly clamped the post and bracket, then let it set overnight.

Since, I've taken the RS-1 everywhere with me and use it often. No problems and there's no evidence of the repair, either.

I remember this issue, he's not making it up.

When I got an RS-1 from Headroom last year, paint was missing on the grilles, so there was shiny silver where the glossy black should have been.

My RS-1 is relatively new, within the last three months. Excellent build quality, no issues here.

yeah, it was just some issue with the cups and there being some rough edges or whatnot. But it seems that it's not an issue anymore. Thanks. Carry on

Mine are about four years old. I purchased it used, and according to the seller they have never had any problems. They are in perfect condition.

I've never had the chance to listen or see an RS-1 in person -- quick question -- why do these have square pegs when everything else has round ones? Do they still have round holes?

Square's are on the slightly older RS'1. They still have round holes, but it gives some nice more resistance so that they won't swindle as much.
