Hi, i need to know the differences between the two of them. I know the RP-21 has a great following but what im concerned about mostly is the bass. I love bass heavy music but also like an airyness or clarity to headphones (forgive the lack of audiophile terms) What i want to know is, would the RP-22x be muddy or muffled because its the extended bass version, or would the RP-21 be a better choice. I appreciate and thank you in advance for your opinions.

Heard 22x, and did not like it.
Heard 21, and liked it.

Go for 21. Yes, I don't know other's opinion, but in my memory, they were muddy compared to 21.

what if the cable on the rp-22x was changed to say... silver or silver/copper. Would it improve the resolution of the headphones? I have a feeling that if i get the rp-21, it'll lack bass... will it?

Also how does the rp-22x sit on the ear? Does that not mean that sound would leak? Im looking for closed headphones that i can take on the plane and turn my music up as loud as i can without disturbing others. Any comments?

Yes i have read it, but what i couldn't find was a direct comparison between the two. A lot of bass can mean a little bass for me. And since the RP22x claims to have more bass, then i wouldnt want to have the feeling of regret in buying a product which i know could have been better with a little bit more money (10 pounds difference between the two) I'm not trying to put down your opinion, i just want more opinions based on people who actually owned or preferably still own them. I appreciate your input by the way, and i don't claim to know much about headphones and i respect your opinion and headphone list but all i want is more than one or two opinions. I need a few as i'm probably going to be buying this in a week's time.

....did you read the part that I actually heard both of them?

Ok, I did not listen both of them more than an hour, but it was more than enough to figure out that RP-22x were just plain muddy compared to RP-21.

Somewhere on this site is a comparison of those two + a bunch of other EA cans. I'll post if I find it.

go for the rp-22x. i have a feeling you're a basshead, and rp-21's might disappoint. most people on head-fi prefer a clean sound erring on the side of neutrality as opposed to bassy headphones so to them it may sound muddy, but i don't think it will to you. i'm not discounting others' opinions, i'm just saying that judging from experience, most new head-fi'ers looking for bassy headphones are usually disappointed by the bass, expecting just more of it. the more experienced members here eventually gravitate towards a more neutral sound as their tastes mature (not to imply that liking boosted bass is a bad thing, just that most people eventually tire of it). i'm still a basshead, i use an eq to boost the bass frequencies somewhat on all my headphones (except the EB's)

Thanks for the advice. I think i was just looking for people to say that the RP-22x is good enough, hahah. Have you felt the fit of those headphones? People say that they sit on the ears instead of being circumaural (i'm still new to this so i think it means surrounding the ears) Would the Rp-22x leak sound in that sense? Considering that they do not envelop the ears, but rather sit outside them, could that be a cause for sound leakage? Oh how i wish i could audition both pairs before buying them.

Also, what is the problem with the RP-22x, do people feel that it is veiled? Because that could be a problem also.
