I picked this up for $1 at a local library sale. The cd was still in it's brand new wrapper. I picked it up at random chance having no idea what to expect, but after listening to it once through I am extremely satisfied with it. The reviews on Amazon are also very strong, nearly 100% 5 stars.

Anyone else have this? The recording is well done with proper imaging and balance with proper solo fronting, clear, but not piercing like trumpet jazz can be sometimes. The full spectrum is very liquid including some of the best big band jazz bass I've heard in quite some time. This album will make use of every inch of sound stage you can muster.

I highly recommend this latin jazz album to anyone wanting to expand in this direction. You can listen to samples on Amazon, I think.

Funny, I remember really digging the guitar groove on the first track of that record, "O My Seh Yeh" (they do it at the end of the disc, too), but I can't recall anything else. Have to pull it out again…

The percussion in track 9, Mambo for Roy, alone is worth the purchase of the CD. Minutes of mindblowing drums. Amazing.

Thank's for the tip. I'll have to pick it up. I have been listening to Hargrove's latest "Earfood" and it is excellent!

I suspect if you like "Habana" you would also like the band Caribeean Jazz Project. Check out the live cd "Hear and Now". It's brilliant!

Another great thing about this album is that it is recorded live in front of an audience. This is great recording quality in a live concert! The audience is fairly quiet, but you can hear them when they cheer at the end of songs.

This is funky stuff, good find and thanks! I haven't been able to get enough good jazz lately.

Thanks for the tip! I love a lot of the legends but am looking to expand a bit. I saw Eddie Palmieri last year and the Afro-Cuban All-Stars (Buena Vista Social Club) for my birthday about a week ago!
