Given the similarity between the (esp. later) Sextett and its many variants, I'm not convinced it's worth buying more than one of them

Agreed

Had a look through your headphone list and I didn't see a Grado. So this makes sense.
They are bright, but I've never heard anything this bright that doesn't fatigue easily - also when I crank up the bass a little, they sound really great.

Well I've had an Alessandro...but you're right I don't have one! I'm hoping to remedy that soon. I wish you lived in the US so we could compare, because according to wualta these things rarely sound similar but I think ours are, which might lead to the possibility there were a few different versions of these. And I love turning the contour knob on my receiver with these.

I still have my old (I think they are going on a decade-old now) K 271 Studio cans. They are in need of their second set of new earpads soon as well as replacing the foam cover over the drivers, Sound-wise, they are as good as new and still my only pair of full-size cans. I went through a lot of headphones to get to these and still have no desire to find something new. The little K 350 in-ears that I got a couple years ago are also still in use although primarily with the HeadRoom Total Bithead since they are rather harsh and sibilant unamped.

My K271 is I think the second pair of headphones I've ever bought and the only one to survive my various purges of gear. There's just something about it that makes it hard to get rid of.

Given the similarity between the (esp. later) Sextett and its many variants, I'm not convinced it's worth buying more than one of them - pull EQ on it and you have any version. I'd draw the line between them and the Monitors, though, since that seems to be about when AKG started fixing the more glaring driver issues; and for reasons of soundstaging, might draw another line between the Sextett variants with the Pro 50/K 250 type cup and those with the normal K 240 one.

Unless you're a collection addict like me. Getting a df for 45 bucks tomorrow. I can't wait! :)

Well for that price who wouldn't get it?, even just to check it out and sell on if you don't like it.
The DF prices have gone up like crazy in the past 2 years. Sometimes hard to get one for double that price now.

Yup, definitely very lucky to have bought it today for that price. They are in very very good condition and I do love the sound of them very much.

The bass is quite good, I don't think they are that weak at all

say hello to my new member to the family: a k240df, not sure about the production year (late 80s perhaps). they do have the detachable 1/8"-to-1/4" adapter, anyone have an idea when akg started doing that?
