I once tried some pads on those K50 and all of a sudden they proved what they were capable of. 20 years ahead of the Walkman?

I just got my first pair of AKG headphones, and for the price i paid, i must say, the sound pretty nice, got the AKG K420, it's a pretty decent headphone for it's price, i'll sure be getting in the future the AKG K701 or K702.

Honestly, I'm more impressed with some of the older models, but tastes differ.

Most drivers using an older technology require a dedicated amp to drive the properly, but i;ms rue many of them sound even better them most modern day headphones from various brands and price range, and i hope the AKG K1000, fits in there too, what i heard about them is that sound amazing.

I must saying after seeing those pictures of the AKG K50, seems like and interesting headphone, if they sound as good as they look, they must be amazing, and what connector is that? never seen that one, looks a bit like XLR, but i'm not sure if it is XLR.

For sure, that is why I have all the different versions!

You can get them pretty cheap from the German eBay and ask the seller to give you a postage quote to your country. The cheapest postage to Australia is about 9.5 euro.

So you can definitely get one for less than 100 bucks if you search around!

A vintage headphone that won't break the bank sounds interesting to me, but i must say that for now, i'm happy with my K420.

i don't have a k50, but i do own a k60 (almost NOS, with a retrofitted 1/4" stereo plug). and they sound exactly like what they are: a sixties can. means emphasized mids and an early roll-off in the treble as well as in the bass. listening to the beatles or the stones totally makes sense though

 
btw: this is a DIN-plug, not XLR. sort of a predecessor but not compatible.
