Robert Jordan has been fighting Cardiac Amyloidosis for the last two years, and lost the fight today. There is more about it on his blog here. Despite all the controversy he attracted with how he handled the WoT series as of late he is a great author, and it is sad to see him go.

According to sources in the last couple months he's stopped focusing on writing the last book and instead focused on getting as much plot, storyline, and detail permanently committed so someone could finish the last book for him. It's incredibly sad thinking about it, he knew he was coming to the end

I have to wonder what that feels like, hopefully having many years ahead of me.

In the end though I hope we all have something important to live for when we die. It seems too many are simply biding time to the end.

Wow... I recognised the name in the thread title from somewhere, so I clicked.

I read the first book in the WoT series and really loved it...

Sad news indeed

Sad new indeed. Such a great series. I started reading around 9th grade and made it up to book 8. I was actually thinking about reading them over again.

This is indeed sad news. And to think, I just re-read the whole series this summer trying to refresh my memories in order to prepare for the two final books.

Series was epic, but went severely downhill after book 5. I myself couldn't bring myself to keep reading after book 9.

Jordan himself, however, was always an amazing man and his passing will be missed. Hopefully someone finishes book 12 (most of the ideas were already thrown together anyhow) for all the diehard fans out there who want to know how it ends.

If you are going to use an acronym don't assume everyone knows what it means. What is WoT?

Rest in peace. I don't like your books personally, but you've brought lots of enjoyment to others.

Wow. RIP.

At least in the paperbacks, his bio (on inside back cover) indicated that he would continue to write until the pen is pry ed from his cold lifeless hand (or something like that).
