vertigo once challenged me to find some of the tubes it used.

i went to various places including the almost always a hit tube world and antique electronic supply and upscale audio.

nothing.

seriously makes me wonder why they use such an elusive tube.

All I currently have (other than the ones that are on the way) are some Mullards, and they suck. Serious distortion if there is any bass. Yes, I tried to break them in, didn't make a difference. They might've been OOS, though (as opposed to NOS, I.E., used).

I have a couple odds and ends that I got here and there, but all those quads that I got from templeboy got crunched in shipment. (I'll post pictures later, it's really sad, I almost cried. Shards were pouring out of the box as I carried it into my room.)

So far, I'm very happy with the Polamp ones, so if anyone finds a source for these, I'm in.

these seem to be generic replacements, not a tube to look for an improvement.

this is still a good find, but not like finding a gold pinned siemens 6992 or a cryovac 6sn7(or whatever order that is!)

k.s.

KShaft -- I disagree, there is no such thing as a "generic" tube, just as there is no such thing as a "generic" headphone, only "unknown". I bought some "generic" tubes once, they turned out to be Mullards. Sucky Mullards, but Mullards all the same.

tanfenton -- thanks for the links, I'll be pursuing some of these.
