This is not easy to describe, but I want to see if anyone else has found a problem with their headphone jack connection. When I got my amp and Impedancer I plugged the Impedancer's headphone jack into the amp, and then my headphones into the Imp. When I put on the headphones I only got sound from the right channel. The left one was completely dead. I started pulling the Imp jack out, and suddenly both left and right channels worked, but an annoying buzz came into play. Has anyone run into a problem with their jacks on this amp??

I found that the amp's jacks are not making contact when the Imp or my headphones are fully inserted. The very end of the Imp jack goes in too far and the contact is lost. As soon as I back out some it makes contact again, but the buzzing comes in. Here's some photos showing what the problem is:

I am trying to buy a pair of jacks that will fit into the holes that exist in the chassis without modifying it. Does anyone know of a jack that can be dropped in place easily for this application??

Thanks in advance.

Both jacks on my RKV work perfectly when the impedancer or headphone plug are fully inserted, and both jacks on my impedancer also work perfectly with fully inserted plugs.

If you fully insert a headphone plug directly into the RKV are there any problems? When using the impedancer do both jacks on the RKV work the same way? If the answer to the first question is 'no' and the second 'yes' I think you have a problem with the wiring in your impedancer either at the jack or elsewhere.

Send an e-mail to Jan if you haven't already, he will forward this to Helmut and hopefully you should be able to solve this quickly through e-mail and a little DIY.

Good Luck!

Yes. The problem is there with either headphones, a headphone adapter, and/or the Impedancer. Everything I have plugged in causes the same problem, the jack goes in and you can watch the pick-ups on the receptacle move out to show they are making contact. But that last 1/4", when inserted, causes the very end pick-up to drop back into place, thereby losing contact with the jack. As soon as I back it off a little the pick-up moves back onto the jack, and sound returns. Weird, but there's just something physically wrong with the receptacles that is causing this.

Both jacks on my Imp work perfectly with headphones inserted al the way. Both of those jacks are fine.

I think I'll take a screwdriver and see if I can bend the end pick-ups just slightly to help them make contact. I'm hoping that this helps, at least for the short-term.

Not sure what you mean, but I think you're saying if the Imp is plugged in to the RKV, and I plug a pair of cans intothe RKV also, do I get the same peoblem. If so, yes. Since both jacks work identically, that is they lose contact with any jack fully inserted, it makes no difference what I plug in, or already have plugged in to the RKV.

Actually, I emailed Helmut at Audio Valve after I doscovered the problem and he has sent me out a pair of replacement jacks for the amp today. I was concerned that these would arrive and work the same as the ones I have, but we'll see.

Thanks 88Sound.

WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! What if I swap one headphone jack out of the Imp to the amp?? Since both the jacks on the amp are bad, and both the jacks on the Imp are good, wouldn't it make sense to take one from the Imp and swap it into the amp to fix at least one jack RIGHT NOW?? Man, amazing what a little sleep will do for the old thunker module in the head. Let see how hard this will be, and whether or not I should just wait for the jacks from Helmut to arrive in Ecuador.

mine works fine. sorry about that, but i must say those are awesome pictures describing the problem.

you might want to try and replace the jacks. i also noticed that your jacks are black (i think), but mine are silver. i wonder why this change to design was made, or if i just happen to be seeing your pictures wrong.

Thanks Kevin. Helmut sent out some replacements today, so I'll probably just wait until I get them in before playing with too much. I could pull one jack out of the Impedancer and pop it into the amp, but that's just one more thing I would have to replace later, so I'll be patient til then.
