Thanks for the info.

Those racks do look excellent. Someday I will have to upgrade to something like these.
Love the neo high end Quattron racks, of course my Aic-10 headphone amp 😉

Simone, will you be sharing your journey with speakers in this thread, or somewhere else? I am driving Audio Note K SPE with the AIC and couldn’t be happier. It is all situated in my family living room and the room and all the circumstances are the limiting factor, not the speakers.
Enjoy the journey :)

It is a journey of wonders I was aspiring to restart after decades of forced abstinence. I am immensely enjoying my first steps, which I am recording in a couple of articles that will be posted on 6moons likely before the end of the year. As the AIC-10 is a strategic part of my reacquaintance with speakers, I will share glimpses of my experience here as well :)

I hope I will be able to try some AN speakers as well in this process. The AN-E were among my top candidates, although I tried them in a couple of occasions (shop and friend's house) and noticed they perform at their best when positioned in the corners, which is not viable in my room unfortunately. As you have noted, the room configuration and how you can arrange speakers in it (especially if like both of us you don't have the luxury of a 100% dedicated audio room) play a major role.

Despite the headphone bug hit me every now and then....I was never able to fall in love with any pair, and I ended up keeping my AIC-10 Bal for a desktop/nearfield setup.
It complements a Grandinote Volta as source and a pair of Audio Epilog Ice speakers.
The AE Ice are not very known, at 86db they are not the most efficient pair of speakers....but with the above mentioned setup they can produce a sound which is very tactile even at low volumes...don't know how to better describe it. It's quite addictive.
Every now and then I am tempted to downsize my setup (looking at a Granidnote Shinai right now) to free some liquidity, but in the end I alway stop before doing the last mile. :relaxed:

Great to hear, I am looking very much forward to your articles. Congratulations on your gig at 6moons, very well deserved!

Has anyone used the Abyss 1266 with the speaker outputs of the AIC-10?
I’m considering getting an XLR to speaker taps adapter from JPS for this setup. Curious if it’s worth it.

That’s how I run my Susvaras and 1266s. I would say it’s worth it. Would suggest you ensure the cables match the speaker taps.
I have a new pair of Moon Audio Silver dragon cables with speaker taps for Susvara OG . I used them for about 3 weeks with my AIC 10 which I have since sold. Any interest send me a private message

i’m running Danacable Lazuli Nirvana and Lazuli Nirvana Speaker Taps. The only cable and speaker taps I would be interested in trying are the DHC Chimera.

I use the Chimera with Susvara off the 4-pin xlr output and like it. Heavy cable but great quality.

Friends,

Quick survey questions so to speak:

1. How many of you drive the Susvara off the balanced headphone output of the Riviera and are satisfied with it (without needing to go the speaker amp route)? I know how my good friend and one of the most amazing audiophiles I have met (e-met), @goldwerger feels.

2. How many would pick the Riviera over MK 465 or the Viva Egoista to drive the Susvara?

Still haven't heard the 465, but I like a tiny bit of warmth in an amp, which is why I chose the Riv. I could be totally satisfied using the XLR out with the Susvara, but admittedly I find a touch better dynamics from the speaker out. But I really do mean a "touch"; they're very close. IMO

I used the speakers taps almost exclusively after moving to it (except with Utopia). Susvara was always from the taps after the first comparison.

I'd easily pick AIC10 over the Egoista. Comparison with 465 is more complicated and I wrote extensively about that in the past but it comes down to the good ol' solid state vs tubes and color vs more neutral. If I owned only one amp with Sus it'll probably be AIC but if a SS and tube then 465 for SS but not necessarily AIC for the tube since it won't play that role different enough.
