I've heard that 4G Ipods have the bass-roll off characteristics when used with low impedance cans, but how about when coupled with 50-64ohm cans such as HD280 and A500-900? Also, which sounds better:the 4G ipod or the rio karma coupled with high impedance cans?
Thanks

I dont know about 50 ohm cans but my ipod does not have weak bass with HD650 (300 ohm). I was actually suprised that the bass was a bit stronger then from my PC, both with EQ turned off.

Measurements posted on these forums before (use "search") indicate that bass rolloff occurs with any headphones < 100 ohms. However, the roll off appears to decreases as the impedance increases towards 100.

I have the following right now:

4G iPod 40GB
Rio Karma
Grado SR-225 (32ohm)
Senn HD-595 (50ohn)
Beyer DT-770 (80ohm)

I'm getting rid of my iPod, so I haven't tested it with the Grado's & Senn's since they're very new, but....

The iPod cannot push the Beyer's to a "loud" setting. Completely cranked it sounds like I'm still missing something. The Karma can get them louder than I'm comfortable with. I'd recommend the Karma, personally.
