well last time i was here i was reccomended a pair of sennheisers (MX 500 were the ones i got) as a pair of budget earphones..

now i'm thinking of getting a pair of in-earphones/canal-phones/earbuds (dunno the best term i hope they are all the same)

well i think my budget is around £35 so around $70

the reason is i would like to listen to my music and see how much better it can be. I listen to quite a varied amount of music, ranging from soft rock, rnb, soul, and reggae all the way to a lot of dance, electronica and drum n bass, so i was hoping i could get something with good bass but also good clarity

I was reading the reviews on the V-moda vibe, and these seem really good but over my budget. Also since i have only started looking, i was wondering if there was maybe a lesser pair that would do what i want, and if i would actually notice the difference not being very sound experienced, if you could call it that.

I will probably use it for indoor use only such as on my pc.. cos if i used them outside and the isolation was really good i might get run over or something ^_^;;

hope you can help! thanks!

Creative EP 630 = very good value at a budget price level. For more money, there's the similar-looking (and sounding?) Sennheiser canal phones. Comfortable, and easy to insert and take out. There would be microphonics, however, whenever the cords brush against your clothing, for example. However, you wouldn't have to play your music as loudly, and you should hear more detail.

The most noticeable characteristic of canal phones or IEMs would be that they don't just hang on the outside of your ear, which is what earbud-style earphones do.

Canalphones rest inside your ear canal and isolate but not very well. True IEMs generally form an airtight seal that provides far greater isolation, and actually grips your ear canal of your middle ear region. IEMs generally offer superior clarity and detail at the expense of visceral bass thump and body, especially IEMs of armature ancestry (all but the Shure E2, Bose Triport IE, and V-Moda Vibe IIRC; the latter two actually don't isolate).

At that price I'd go for an Etymotic ER6 or Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3. If the Altec Lansing iM616 is in your price range, it too is a very worthwhile option.

ok thanks!
are the ones LaBreaHead suggested canal phones and not IEM's?
thinking back also i do want ones with quite good bass, and whatever headphones give me the best performance for price.. i don't want to go up a level in price for only a small sound difference if you understand...

thanks!

The Creatives are canal phones -- snug fit, but no real isolation. Canal phones do "override" outside noise more efficiently than regular earbuds do, though.

My Creatives have more bass than my Etymotic ER6i's, which are in-ear monitors, but the more expensive Etys isolate excellently (on planes, trains, etc.) and have much sharper detail. But if you use the earphones indoors, you probably don't really need isolation -- but start saving up, for the next upgrade.

hmmm true i will be using them mostly indoors i think, and occasionally out..
i guess i'll go for canal phones for now, and in the future may get IEM's depending on how much i like the new-found isolation!

are the creative and the sennheisers quite simillar then? any major differences?
