Two things I noticed that more than likely cause it to go out is if I listen to a song that is bass heavy or if I accidentally bump into something on the right side of the headphones. Sometimes it wont go all the way out it, the sound will drop about 25% but if I turn the volume really high it will go back to 100%. What would cause this, would you say the cord is loose? I was thinking to see if I could still return it to Audio Technica but if not, see if I could fix the cord.

It's probably a loose connection. I'd exchange them if you can.

^ I dont think the earpads on the AD700s can cause a volume difference. I played with the pads ALLOT and did not experience this.

I think its just a lose connection. If you have warranty I would exchance them. If not.. Just take them apart. The build is quite simple and easy to fix if you can handle a soldering iron.

I just realized that the warranty was only for one year, for some reason I thought it was two. Guess I'll be going under the knife. I dont really know what to expect as ive never open any headphones, what is it that I have to do exactly?

Took it apart and didnt see anything unusual aside from the thin black wire being exposed in a few places. I wondering if it could be ground out on something? When I have the time I'll add tiny pieces of electric tape to the exposed areas and see if that helps.
