That is funny

You sure it's not Tex-Arkana 90230?

...and, it couldn't have as many mansions as Newport, Rhode Island's waterfront community.

BTW- I used to deliver large screen TV's in Alpine in the '80's... and let's just say, that Richard Gere would be jealous.

Smoke Rise should be factored in the Alpine equation.

I was thinking Medina where Bill Gates lives out here in Washington State. But I don’t think any of the houses ever sell so it might not make the list since it’s based on Sale Price.

There are towns in NJ that will blow your mind. Not far from where I live is the town where Whitney Houston lives or lived or something. Nothing but rolling estates for miles and miles. Each one costs millions more than the next.

NJ isn't all Sopranos.

Modest family homes (1500 square feet) in the neighbourhood I live in run between 1.2 to 2.0 million dollars, which I find utterly amazing. In my old city that could buy you a 4000-5000 square foot house easily.

In some posh SF neighborhoods an 800 square foot cottage (1 bed, 1 bath, no room or permission to expand) costs over $2 million. Belvedere, for example. Or Seacliff (indeed, my wife's boss lives there in the smallest house in the neighborhood, right next to Robin Williams -- all the neighbors coo about how "quaint" it is -- its value is at least $6 million).

Bernardsville is also known for it's pricey real estate.

Wow, that is amazing, the prices of these homes.

Makes me appreciate the homes in Oklahoma more and more.

A friend of mine bought a 4400 square foot home in a nice area, all brick, 4 bedroom, 4 1/2 bath room, granite countertops in kitchen and all bathrooms, theater room, office, large back patio with outdoor fireplace, 3 1/2 car garage, etc.........$500k.

Hmm, I'm not really sure if that really is the most expensive town. Here on Oahu, I've seen prices for numerous homes in Portlock start at $4-5 million and go up to over $20 million. Hawai'i Loa Ridge and Judd Hillside are also very exclusive communities but prices start at a slightly more reasonable amount, around $2 million and go up from there. In the nicer areas of Kahala and Hawai'i Kai, it's not unusual to see a nice new or re-modeled 4-5 bedroom house go for around $3 mill. Even though the market is declining here in Hawai'i, a million still doesn't buy you the same kind of house it used to. I've seen 3-4 bedroom homes way out in Kapolei being listed for $900k these days, amazing considering that used to buy you a nice home in Manoa just 10 years ago.

Gotta love these kinds of articles:

"Scan local listings and you'll find that 120 feet of Palm Beach beachfront starts at $20 million. Want an acre in Newport Beach? You'll be lucky to pay under $5 million. Oceanfront properties like these, real estate agents say, are more desirable than acreage along a lake or prairie."

Gee, it's good that we have real estate agents to tell us these things... no wonder they take such a large cut!

Well, you gotta go by average price not just like the upper end. It may be that there are more expensive houses being sold there... but there's probably a lower end to whatever zipcode you are talking about that is dragging them down. I was pretty darn surprised to hear Ross being the town that reps the Bay Area when we have Hillsborough/Los Altos Hills/Atherton/SF/Various Marin County places.... but then you look at its size and the averages and it makes a little bit more sense.
