REVIEW: WESTONE 3, the ULTIMATE UNIVERSAL IEM vs everything else
Mar 23, 2014 at 5:51 PM Post #2,101 of 2,117
Are there any secrets to getting a good seal with the w3? Bought some for my father for Xmas and just found out he wasn't able to get any kind of seal so it has been bassless. I can't seam to get a seal either with any of the provided options. Help, is there anything like the tf10 flip mod needed to make these work?

You are doing something wrong.  Westone IEMs are the easiest to fit.  Read the manual on how to insert a tip.  Use foam complys tips with W3.  Best fit and sound.

Some people find they seal with a shallow insertion but if pushed in too deep then the seal is lost.  So, I say to start inserting them 1mm at a time, until you find a spot where the tips grab the walls of the ear canal without falling out, with a concurrent drop in ambient sound coming in (so do it with music off maybe).

I'd imagine it'll either be comply, or the star/tru fit tips.  Either that or got them reshelled.

Nothing the matter with longevity - I thoroughly enjoyed my W3 during its stay in my collection - raw, rough and rowdy little IEM

2015! Woo! Anyway, since we're talking about longetivity now, how are you guys' w3's holding up? I just snagged these on eBay ($315 AU, why not) to replace my Ety ER-4P while it's out of commission for repairs, and I love everything about it besides the non-replaceable cables. Any experience on how the cables hold up throughout the years?

Also when I mean happy, I really do mean happy. It's a nice compromise between ie8's bass and er-4p's treble. Like a person child or something.

Quick shot of my freshly arrived reshelled westone 3's by Cosmic Ears in the uk.  Not had time to do long term testing yet.

Are these earphones considered hifi or midfi?

I'd consider them somewhere in the between hi-fi and mid-fi? What even defines that boundary anymore though, cheaper IEMs offer similar SQ imo. Price is basically thrown out of the window nowadays
But W3 are still great in my eyes, I dig the punch whilst still having clarity. Ideal for hip-hop and EDM imo

Hello

I have to say that mine with AT HA22Tube has no competition.  Now is my first option to listen music.

I love the warm sound with body and clarity. The separation is great.

It's crazy how well the W3 have held up over the years, and even with all the new IEM that have come out the W3 have not become totally obsolete. Trying to figure out where my review photos went, after 7 years.
