Hi guys,

I am thinking about using this dac to pimp the bad sound of my oppo 105, but i dont see any trigger input, so how much power does it need when activated all the time?

Is there someone have both PS nuwave and V800? I am choosing one of them.

I have a somewhat low opinion of the NuWave. I really wanted to like it.... but just couldn't. It sounded bright and just obnoxious is several different systems, and I never got it to sound remotely as good as I had hoped. A few others around here seemed to feel the same way. Though, to be fair, I've read positive impressions from others, so who knows.

Personally, I wouldn't put it anywhere near the V800.

Thank you very much. It helps me a lot.

Hi,

I've been looking around for a new DAC, and this one caught my eye - I just had two small questions.

1. I've read that the USB input results in reduced sound quality. Could anyone confirm/deny?

2. It seems like the DAC doesn't work at all with Windows 8.1. Is this an 8.1-specific issue, or will it not function in Windows 10 either?

Thanks!

The original V800 didn't support USB asynchronous mode, only USB adaptive mode which might be where some of that sentiment comes from.

I've listened to it via USB and PC->Asus Xonar DX->V800 and I couldn't really tell the difference. Wasn't a super comprehensive test, but it wasn't anywhere near as noticeable as say an amp or headphone change.

I think violectric themselves have tested the v800 & v850 with windows 10 and both worked fine, see the V850 thread for their post.
I'm running my v850 on a windows 8.1 laptop so I can't confirm their findings one way or another.

always used toslink so haven't heard a difference on win 10. Should try usb at some point... I know the v2 didn't work with 8.1 for me.

We´ve tested the USB 24/192 Tenor Chipset inside DAC V800 and found it perfectly working with
Windows XP, Vista, 8, 8.1 and 10.
From the measurements the frequency range is ruler flat with all OS,
this also concerns to THD.
Best Regards
