Review: Sony MDR-7550
Oct 6, 2013 at 11:07 AM Post #76 of 255
listening to H200 and having listened to RDB+V1 on my trusty Cowon S9 i can only assert both IEMs sound much more interesting and emotionally involving compared to 7550.
sorry dudes, i wanted to give 7550 a try today but again same old story, five minutes listen and 7550 goes back in the box

why the heck.... i may ask because i love Sony bass approach and find 7550 bass one of the best i heard.... but that's all, kill me burn me but i cannot.

No problem. If you didn't like them, you didn't. Nothing to argue about.

yes Vik, you right mate. sometimes our ears are just different.

nevertheless i must admit 7550 bass is stunning and is one of the best i ever heard from a small IEM.

That's what mainly got me to risk buying the 7550. Because I really enjoyed the EX1000 bass. Was my favorite aspect of the IEM.

  Sound!

Sub-bass: Wonderful! It's a dynamic driver and its bass doesn't disappoint me a single bit. Very warm and has long decay. Also, the bass isn't affected much by outside noise.(meaning that you will be able to hear the bass even if you are in a train or something)

Mid-bass: Not overly done, but not light. Very punchy and has good decay.

Punchy, but not overdone.  They have just the right balance of sub-bass and punch.

Lower-mids: Bit grainy, but slightly forward. Overall good.

Upper-mids: Smooth! Rich! Slightly forward! It's one of the best aspect of this iem.

Lower-treble: Touch hot, but overall great. It's slightly sibilant, but it's not something you should worry about.

Not sibilant at all to my ears.

Upper-treble: Lacks extension and feels veiled. Kind of like SE535.

I would not call it a veil, just a little recessed perhaps.

Soundstage: Due to it's huge vent, soundstage is wide, very wide for an iem.

Imaging: Decent. On par with most $250 iems.

Detail: Fair. On par with most $250 iems.

They are good with most kind of music I've tried. Especially rock and pop, but it also shines with female vocal.

Pretty much how I hear things....spot-on.

Are you in Tokyo? If so, check out these stores...
(and try not to get lost in the sea of manga/DVD and maid cafe shop known as Akihabara)

Fujiya Avic
Yodabashi
Bic Camera
e-earphone

I think these stores lets you demo, so do a side by side demo and let your ears do the judging.

sidenote: ex800st for 19,000 yen? that's pretty attractive price!
also note ex1000 is almost double that of ex800st (in street price) because it's out of production and uses more exotic parts,

the price of 19000, the shop sold out, another shop has it for about 22000 after tax, so will it be this or the ex1000 for 31800 yen.

btw maid cafe is too expensive, rather get some proper service, you know what i mean.

its longer with detachable cable.

ill stick with the ex800 even though it up 22000yen from 19000yen from a different shop, the ex1000 at 31800yen still seem expensive.
