Review: Sony MDR-7550
Feb 10, 2014 at 3:14 PM Post #121 of 255
I think I read it somewhere, or it could be just my imagination, I've read so many posts they are all starting to look the same...   but can the 7550 cable be interchanged with the ex1000 cable?  I've tried to see if I could tell from the pictures, but I can't tell.  I've read some posts that say the stock cable is on the thin side while the ex1000 is a bit thicker.  Also to keep on discussion, I ordered some complys for my 7550s that get here tomorrow.   I could never get a good seal with the silicone tips, so comply for me. However I am a bit interested in those stock sony foam tips that i've heard about...

Im pretty sure that the cables are interchangeable. The sony hybrid tips are pretty good, but comply are better imo

I had wondered the same thing or if any custom cable were available.  I also had looked, with no luck, if you could buy the connectors so I could play around with making my own.....if only I had all the time to play with my earphones that I'd like.

Anyway, I had came across this listing.  Makes me think they are the same, but I've never seen anything else to say one way or the other.

Custom-iem.com also has custom cables for EX1000, which I think should fit the 7550. Ask chrishimself. He must know.

I hadn't used my 7550s in a while...I put them on today and all I can think is...

...why did I not use my 7550s in a while?

I will not commit this mistake again.

The MDR7550 is a full-size can in IEM size.  The soundstage is soooo wide.

Ik. I love the 7550. There is a reason that 7550 is the only universal i ended up keeping, after owning and trying +20 $200+ iems. In fact, once i got the uerm, 7550 was the only iem I wanted to keep. SE535, X20, H200, and FXZ200 all left me. 7550 sounds so full and fun.

The 7550 is very underrated around these parts.

Has anyone here tried Shure 315's?

graph wise it looks slightly favorable compared to 7550

Yup. Graph wise, maybe. But not really. SE315, with some reason, sounds like it really really lacks sub bass and treble. I feel like graph doesn't match how it sounds. 7550 is a closer comparison to 535, which I used to own.

What made you let go 7550?  Are you shooting for something higher in the universal IEM realm?

For me I think my search for u-IEM is over.  It's either I go c-IEM or get open headphones and related devices need that need to power it.

Well, it was that I used IM03 and UERM too much, and have to time to use 7550. While I do use it once a while, but it's not enough to make me keep it.
