I am going to do a pretty comprehensive review of my HD650s, K701s, and RS-1s. Hopefully if my HD595s show up in time I can include them, and just for fun I may include my HD590s because I still think they're pretty good, even though they don't seem to be highly respected around here. For the review, I'm going to be using my DIY Dynalo and my DIY TDA1541A DAC. I'll probably re-do the review again with my Beta22 once I get it finished, but that will take a little bit, so I figured I'd do it first with the Dynalo.

Here is where you come in: I'm not sure what music to use. Since I'm going to be using at least three very different headphones, I figured I should use different material to emphasize the strengths and weaknesses of each of them. The songs I am planning on using are:

Protection by Massive Attack
Beach Combing by Marc Knoplfer and Emmylou Harris
5 Days in May by Blue Rodeo
Lullaby by Dixie Chicks
Tears in Heaven from Eric Clapton
Something I can Never Have - from Still, Nine INch Nails
Gagging Order by Radiohead
Hard core Troubadour by Steve Earle
Out of this World (Paul Oakenfold remix) by The Cure
Prison Sex by Tool

If you have any suggestions of songs you'd like me to cover, please post them and if I have them I'll consider adding them to the list if I have the music in my collection. I've tried to include a broad cross section of types of music in my list here so that we can get a good idea of where each of the headphones strengths/weaknesses are on a single system.

It will end up being a pretty massive review, given the number of songs and headphones I'm going to compare, so it'll take me a while to get through it all - but please, if you've got an idea for a killer test track, please suggest it.

Throw in some Yoko Kanno and Yuki Kajiura songs. I love songs by these composers.

I'd like to hear your comments on at least one of the five following albums if at all possible.

Dave Mathews Band - Crash
Hank Shizzoe - Low Budget
Mike Oldfield - Amarok
Jean-Michel Jarre - AERO
Vangelis - Antarctica

Tool is a good choice

possibly Time - Pink Floyd?
The sound effects sound shrill and piercing on some cans, on others not.

x3.

Also, for acoustic guitar Aerial Boundaries by Michael Hedges is as good as it gets. Try it.
