Hi

I have a CD that seems to have the reverse of the copy protection problem. It plays fine on CDROM players in computers but if I put it in my HiFi CD player or PCDP then I just get a nasty noise as the CD plyer tries to track and it wont play at all. Has anyone else seen this kind of thing before ?

Its a cd by Gillian Welch called Hell Among The Yearlings on Agony records, its not a copy but an original I got from HMV the other day.

Just a wild guess *but* have you tried to skip track #1? Maybe it's an "enhaced" CD or something.

It never gets to trying to play track one. It doesnt even bring up the number of tracks on the CD just makes nasty zshh zhhh noises

At least it works on your PC so you can make a working copy

Maybe it is just a defective CD. If it's not too old return it for a fresh copy.

I have all Gillian's CD's including that one and haven't had a problem (except really bad mastering on two tracks on her newest). Course there could be differences between the US and UK version. I'd be surprised at that point of her career if there was any advanced CD material.
