Resistor mod for headphone

I have decieded that I have to do this as the treble is a little fatiging on my AKG K501's. I'm looking for a 2-3 decibel in the treble but have no idea what resistor to use. Anyone wanna step up to the plate with a suggestion? I resally don't want to do this more than once as these phone aren't the most mod-ready out there and are easily ruinable (trust me, I know.

A simple resistor won't help you, in fact it would give you even more treble due to the inductive rise of the impedance. What you could use would be a 150 ohm resistor paralleled with a 1mH inductor, this combination would then go in series with each channel of the headphone. Would shelve down the response about 2.5dB from 5kHz up.But I think modifying your amp would be far more practical.

Your idea sounds very promising. I have toyed with equilizer settings and I have pinpointed the problem I have. A 2db reduction above 5khz is exactly what I need. I really don't want to mod the amp as the problem lies with the phones themselves. How would you suggest doing this?

Well amp and phones form a system, so what's wrong with doing it in the amp? As I said, you could easily make it defeatable.
For the resistor/inductor thing I'd make an adapter. Get one male and one female phone plug, solder one inductor (air core, doesn't need to be very heavy gauge) from each channel input to output. Then solder one resistor across each coil. Ground goes straight through.
