I am replacing a dying Zune HD and have four major criteria:
-I'd like to keep comparable sound quality
-Bluetooth capability (for background, I know it hurts quality)
-I don't want Android, I have a phone for that.
-I need at least 32GB storage, but anything with a MicroSD slot works as well.

If anyone has suggestions, I'd really like to hear them.

The nearest you are going to get to meeting your criteria is an iPod Touch. Sound quality comparison between the Touch and the Zune though, I couldn't say, someone else will have to advise.

The Cowon C2 would be good if you can live wihout bluetooth. If you must have bluetooth, then get the Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6.

He's already said he wants Bluetooth (so that's the Cowon out) and he doesn't want Android (so that's the Samsung Galaxy Player out)

The only thing that meets all his criteria with but with a discussion to be had about whether the it can meet the Zune audio quality, is an iPod Touch. I'm no fan of Apple's hardware, but I can't think of anything else that meets his requirements.

A 32GB ipod Touch is $299! Ouch!!!! An 8GB  Galaxy player 3.6 is under $150. Add to that a $20  32GB microSDHC card. While he might not need Android, it seems like the cheapest good option if he wants bluetooth and a decent sized screen.

The $50 Creative Zen Style M300 has bluetooth and a card slot, however it doesn't integrate card memory with main memory and has a tiny screen. At least it is very cheap though.

The 5th-gen Touch has far more capable hardware than the current-gen Galaxy players. Sure, if you look at capacity only, the difference in price is crazy. Performance-wise, however,  there's quite a difference between the two players.

In January 2011 I spent $275 on a 4th-gen Touch 32GB, and I never regretted the purchase....and only recently parted with it.
