Hello!
I have a AKG K305 headphone (wireless), and one of it's speakers have died. Although they are not that top-level headphone, I'd like to repair them somehow.
So I'd like to know whether any of You can suggest how.
One idea is that I buy any of cheap but not too terrible sounding headphones and replace the speaker (or both). Any suggestions which headphone could that be? Maybe the Sennheiser HD 202?
The speaker's diameter was 40 mm and it was 32 ohm.
Thank You!

In my area there is a musicians friend surplus store. What it is, is a local warehoure but they have some things that are on sale and some things that are damaged out on a "display floor". Ive gone in there many times and ive seen headphones on the wall that were busted and missing some parts. usualy the headphones were missing one or the other can and were never a full set. The packing gets ripped open or somthing has happened and they have racks of these headphones for next to nothing. Im talking a few bucks for whats left. Since they do so much in and out of that place these get stuff in and out of there alot, you should check out that place and see if you have one in your area.

I have a flier they send out every month and i dont see the K305, they have the K141 and the K240 so its possible they would have those from time to time. Are they similar design as the speakers in the cans you have?

You may be able to order it from AKG but short of that I don't think you're going to have much luck. May be cheaper and easier to just get new headphones.

Have you take it apart? maybe there is a short in the cable some where? you can measure it with a meter or pop it with some low voltage. Some headphones have the main plug on the left so the right side run up threw the phone. Adjusting it alot could cause the right side to fail.

I have an older set of eggo cans and it has a changable cable and inside the jack its starting to cut out. I am thinking about just using a good Y cable and hard wire directly to each speaker and just bypass the plug all together. Maybe you could try this?

Thanks
BowerR64, yes, I've metered it, the speaker is dead.
About the place You mentioned: nothing like that here, in my state.
Jasper994, yes, i guess buying new headphone could be cheaper.
So the idea of replacing it with speakers from other headphone is not that good?

The akg 305 looks like this:

(but what does that change?)
I do not know what the speakers of the K141 or K240 look like. The K305 ones are 40 mm diameter. That's all I can say. There is very little hope I will get such os any like them here in Latvia without buying new headphone.
Don't know. Either i throw it in here:

or replace with speakers from other headphone (is it that imposiible and.or you do not recommend it?)

Throwing them to mother nature would end up harming and polluting your clean environment with more plastics and pcb ... allow me to volunteer to do the dirty job for you ... send them here and I'll cover your shipping cost.

Seriously, my sony cordless once quit - so I bought a cheapie sony wired phones and cannibalize the driver. Out of pure luck they use similar mounting so it was a perfect fit - and for those cheapie sony I put ancient drivers out of walkman phones and just glued them there. After the transplant they still live happily now. And the walkman ... well, that's another story.

Especially for AKGs I think they still keep various parts from yesteryears, I even got new ancient stock of their stylus from a very nice gentlemen Karl Peschel, I have his email address but not sure if he's still with the company. Otherwise try looking at the specs of AKG's lower models such as k44 (also 32 ohms), 40mm size and replace both drivers. Better probability of a good fit instead of senn or other brand's drivers.

Anyhow I'll always be by your side if you are in the mood of throwing cans to trashcan.

Good luck !

Sorry if I state the obvious, but you can check other AKG specs here.
