Is there a higher quality stock volume pot that will fit the x-can v2?

I don,t have an answer for you,but a question.Why are you looking for one.I have an x cans v2 and am experiencing some
channel imbalance.I don,t no where this is coming from and
am contemplating either an outboard volume control or balance
control.Are you experiencing channel imbalance as well.

I have no channel imbalance. I'm looking for a better pot for sound quality. If you're experiencing an imbalance it could possibly be your tubes. Try switching them and see if the imbalance reverses. If so a new pair of matched tubes may be in order.

Use a 50K Alps blue velvet pot... only problem is you'll have to drill another hole in the X-Cans faceplate but this is not really a problem

Pink Floyd,

I always wanted to replace the Volume "Knob" on the X-Can v2, but it seems extremely difficult to find a Knob that fits because of the way the shaft does not come out far enough.

Is there a solution for this? I'm talking about replacing the "original" Knob on the original Pot shaft.

Do you possibly have the dimensions of the original knob or any replacement suggestions? Thanks.

I just replaced my tubes last saturday as per Pink Floyds
recommendations.The channel imbalance began after I installed
the new Sovteks.I am happy to report that after four days of
continous use,not only has the imbalance corrected itself,the
sound is just fabulous! Hey Mikey your crossfeed works even better with the Sovteks.To date I have added an Ault power
transformer,X feed,and now the Sovtek tubes.This amp just sings
now,and for the first time I really feel that I understand why
people like tubes.I was listening to ZZTop Eliminator last night
and I could not believe my eyes or my ears if you no what I mean.
I could hear fingers sliding up the frets like I,ve never heard before.Amplifier distortion was distorted like never before,if you
no what I mean.Some sounds just seemed to appear to be floating in the air as if coming from nowhere.Just how much
potential is in this amp.And those Sennheisers just disappear,as
if you really are listening to SPEAKERS.I think I,ll try an Alps too.
But not because I,m not satisfied with the sound.I,ts killer now.
But now I,m curious as to how much more is in this combo.

Great to hear the valves have bedded in and the channel imbalance has disappeared

It's always a good idea to give a new component a few weeks to bed in before doing any critical evaluation.

I found the sovteks to be a very neutral and revealing valve and in my test of 4 valves they came a very close second: http://freespace.virgin.net/rock.grotto/valvetest.htm The Mullards had the edge but, considering they are almost impossible to obtain now, the Sovteks would be my choice unless you want to pay ridiculous prices for the amperex bugle boys.

Those Bugle boys really make the X-can sing but at a crazy price, £85 each in the UK the last time I looked

Probably the biggest improvement you can make to the X-Can is by replacing the Jamicon general purpose capacitors with something a bit more exotic....... I found this tweak to be the most beneficial

PS: when purchasing a pair of valves (tubes) always ensure that they are a "matched" pair. If yours were not a matched pair Duane then get in touch with the firm you bought them from and see if they will replace them with a matched pair. I always deal with http://www.highendaudio.co.uk/ Sean Williams takes pride in ensuring every set of valves he sells are perfectly matched. He will ship worldwide and his prices are extremely reasonable compared with the rest. He used to be the leading Mullard E88CC supplier but, the last I heard, he was having problems sourcing them I know for a fact that http://www.edicron.co.uk/ have a good supply of Mullard E88CC's but you'd have to e-mail them for a price......... £30 for a matched pair was Shauns price so don't entertain anything over the £35 per pair mark.
