Hey guys, this is my first post here, so be easy on me

I did a little bit of searching and from what I've gathered so far, the MDR-V700DJ has received mediocre to negative reviews. I have read many people's recommendations of the Grado SR-60's, and the price is nice. Anyway, I am looking for a good, balanced headphone for a broad range of music...rock, indie pop/electronic, etc. and I do like some hearty bass

. Main use will be at home and on the road out of my laptop (iBook G4) which doesn't have the best sound card output, and my iPod. Portability isn't a huge concern and as long as they are not any more uncomfortable than the Sonys I will be fine. For at home use I am also thinking about getting a headphone amp to beef up the output from the iBook, so any suggestions there would be more than welcome. Budget-wise, I would like to keep it at or under $200 for the cans. Thanks in advance for the advice!

Ok, so after doing some more searching and thinking, I have decided that I am probably going to go with the Alessandro MS-1s and build a CMoy amp and see how that turns out, then probably get a DAC for the iBook. Any input or advice about what I could expect with this setup? It has to be better than straight out of the headphone port into the V700s. Would the DAC -> CMoy be a better alternative than an external sound card like the Extigy?
